Acorn Clinic: Thoburn Robert The Alachua County Organization for Rural Needs, Inc. ACORN Clinic is a nationally-recognized program that provides low-cost medical, dental and social services care to residents of North Central Florida. ACORN Clinic was founded in 1974 when two area churches funded volunteers to meet the healthcare needs of their community. The group initially focused on home visits and social service referrals. In 1976, ACORN Clinic established a medical clinic to meet the area's growing healthcare needs and later expanded its services by starting a dental clinic in 1987.

Two VISTA volunteers funded by local churches, opened a clinic to provide healthcare for migrant farm workers in outlying rural Alachua County. It was incorporated in May of 1974 and named the Alachua County Organization for Rural Needs, Inc. (ACORN).
The board of directors of the ACORN Clinic announced today that they plan to phase out primary care and preventive health services provided by the medical clinic within the next three months. However, ACORN Clinic will continue to provide affordable dental services at its facility in Brooker, Florida.
ACORN Dental Clinic first opened its doors in 1987, operating out of a donated trailer on the ACORN Clinic property. Today the ACORN Dental Clinic is a modern full service facility with six dental chairs and a two chair oral surgery suite. ACORN Dental Clinic's practitioners offer a wide variety of dental procedures to ACORN Clinic patients. Our "Tooth Fairy" outreach program reached 2,311 children from preschool to 1st grade in 2014.
ACORN Clinic uses a broad range of volunteers from the community in North Central Florida to help fulfill the Clinic's mission of providing affordable high-quality medical, dental and mental health services for our target audience of low-income, rural patients. Our use of healthcare professionals includes: physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants, pharmacists, dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, medical assistants, dental assistants and others. We are delighted to assist you in accessing appropriate volunteer opportunities wherever possible at ACORN.

Made an appointment, was asked to show up 30 minutes early to fill out new patient paperwork. Was called back 5 minutes before my appointment time. From the ladies at the front desk, all the way to the dentist everyone was super friendly & helpful. This isn't a free clinic but it is truly low cost dental care. May 3, 2022

All in all a good place that provides a much-needed service to low-income families. However, they need to pay the people in the front more, bc them only making $10/hr, or whatever, is making them spread their apathy to their patients. They never call you back, ever. They haven't called me, nor my husband back numerous times over the last 2 years. I'm not sure if it's related, but this started happening ever since COVID (when my husband lost his job & we had to switch from partial pay to Medicaid).

I can not wait until my husband finishes his college program in a year, & we can go back on partial pay. They scheduled me for a cleaning on December 20th, when they were closed for a week. & they didn't even have the courtesy to call me to lmk they'd be closed, nor to apologize. Then they re-schedule me for a cleaning on April 20th. My last cleaning was on June 16th!

That's over 10 months apart! You're supposed to get a cleaning every 6 months. But this is a good place, all in all. They (people in front) just need to get paid more to cure their apathy.

I had to schedule an emergency Extraction of an infected molar. They were able to get me in with 36 hrs and the doctors and dental assistants and intake personnel were very kind, considerate, and expert! I brought in my financial documents and had a 55% discount to the already affordable price! I also had a screening last week and will have a cleaning next week. They come highly recommended for service, care, and affordability!

My Mother is an elderly disabled women that has been a customer for years. She had an emergency and waited for 3 hrs she expressed concern over her pain. She was told they would not see her that day. At that point they told her to leave and never come back BY OFFICE MANAGER (patient abandonment). BTW SHE ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL SHE IS DIABETIC.

Good place for dental if u don't have insurance. A much needed establishment. They always do a good job. The medical clinic is closing at the end of October 2019. It's a shame. They could make it a little more affordable-but way less than the regular dentist.

I was a customers ride to their appointment at the Acorn dental location. I walked into the building see how much longer the person was going to be. However the time was 12:10pm, which was 10 minutes into their lunch time. So NO ONE would talk to me! I didn't need to see the dentist, I only needed a 2 second answer! So absolutely NO ONE would even look at me or look in my direction, so that way they didn't have to take 2 seconds to answer a question for me! Well, don't worry I won't go back!

The people here are wonderful and kind. They listen to you and treat you like a real person. I've been to other dental clinics and I was treated so poorly that I never wanted to go back. I will definitely recommend and go back to this clinic. Had a tooth extracted in and out under 2 hours. I got lucky in the fact they had an opening. I highly recommend them.

This use to be a place to go. For people with no dental insurance or low income for help. Now just to get started you must pay 100.00 no payment plan all or nothing. Then they will help you. They are like a regular dental office now. Tried to get some help today and could not becouse of their new policy. Who can afford dentist. Anymore when you do not have insurance or a load of .

Which neither i have. So i'm screwed.right now i need dental work done that i have been putting off because of those other reason and still have to come up with fee to do the paper work beork before they will even will see me. Crazy.

Brian was terrific and Dr Foster is a top notch pulmonologist. I love going to a friendly, caring clinic with quality providers who put their patients needs first. And an added bonus is the short but beautiful drive from Gainesville!
