Since its inception in 1907, Huggins Hospital has led the way in community health care by growing, moving, and evolving in response to changes in health care and the needs of the community. The need for a hospital was determined by Dr. Fred E. Clow and Dr. Curtis B. Cotton. They enlisted the aid of other prominent citizens of the community, including the James Martin Family and a corporation was formed in 1907 in order to build a community hospital.Original incorporators were Blake Folsom, James H. Martin, Stephen W. Clow, Sewall W. Abbott, Wilbra H. Swett, Dr. Fred C. Tobey, Edwin F. Chamberlain, Parry T. Hersey, and Dr. Nathaniel H. Scott.

The worst experience in an ER ever! my husband was taken by ambulance and they wrote him off as a panic attack with a heart rate of over 140 bpm and convulsions at a heart rate of 165bpm. Dr. Copenhaven and his nurse were not empathetic and were very dismissive. Four days later we found out it is a cardiovascular issue. THANK FOR NOTHING!

Horrible unprofessional hospital. Will release your private information without consent and talk about it between staff. Hospital should be sued and shut down and people in charge should be imprisoned. I don't know how they are still allowed to commit the crimes they do.

My husband was taken by ambulance to Huggins Hospital on Saturday, March 26, 2022. He dislocated his knee and broke his lower leg. Upon arrival we found this hospital to be warm, friendly, compassionate, and professional. My husband was a medic in the army. He was VERY impressed with the care he was given. The ER nurses and all staff members we encountered were fantastic. Thank you for your care. It did not go unrecognized or unappreciated.

Huggins' ER is really variable depending on who you get as a doctor. I live in the area and have been to the ER numerous times. If I can. I try to avoid Huggins because the standard of care is so variable. I went in on the 18 because I had an irritation in my eye and saw Dr. Gutierrez who decide to first do a flush, and if that didn't work, do another exam to see if there was an abrasion.

The nurse who did the 500cc flushing was great. I got soaked, which she had warned me would happen, but after the flushing, we found a small, pale irritant in the eye. Happy, I was sent home with the advice that if they didn't get all of it, I should come back. Several hours later, I went back and saw Dr. Krupp who did a visual exam and announced I must have a tiny abrasion which he couldn't see, and prescribed erythomycin ointment.

Wait a minute, I tried to say, I can feel something moving around. Did the patient's opinion matter? No. Dr. Krupp did a visual exam and since he couldn't find an irritant, decided to prescribe an antibiotic ointment with the recommendation I see an eye doctor on Mon. Great, I knew what the problem was. Dr. Gutierrez had found the irritant sand said to come back is he didn't get all of it.

I go back, and this new doctor decides because he can't see it I need antibiotic. Knowing that the problem was an irritant, I googled what to do and spent the next hour flushing my eye out. I think I got it. It feels better right now, but if it doesn't, I know what to do -- don't bother going to Huggins ER. Google it, and treat myself.

I am NOT in the habit of writing a review, especially for a hospital, but my experience there for the past week, warrants one. From the time we walked into the ER, till I got released a week later, I dealt with kind, friendly and very knowledgeable nursing staff, who shared so much with me on what they were able to. When I left there, I knew I needed to somehow leave them this review. 1 last point, nobody goes to a hospital for their food, but their variety and menu was restaurant quality. This was my 1st small town hospital I ever went to and left quite impressed.

Dr. Orr and his ED team are consumate professionals. They treat quickly, effectively and without the waiting and BS of many other facilities. It's the equivalent of a 5 star hotel. They care about the patient and are good at what they do. Highly recommend! Thank you so much!

I unfortunately had to visit the ER here twice in the last three days for two totally different reasons. I can count on one how many times in my life I've had to use an ER. Everyone here on both visits were absolutely fantastic. Friendly, caring and patient. I never felt rushed and every interaction was professional yet personal. Very impressive team here.

While the covid receptionist was helpful, the patient portal is not user friendly. If people consistently can't find their results what is the point? I've also been charged a ridiculous fee for Covid testing without my knowledge. I never would have agreed to $450/person for a PCR test. This really discourages testing. Save yourself a lot of angst and go to RiteAid or Walgreens for testing, they'll email you with clear results for free.

Absolute joke and I will be calling a patient advocate. Just wasted an hour and a half at the ER AND WAS NEVER SEEN. Arrived at the ER to have a cast removed. Got wet over the weekend and was advised to go to an ER to have it cut off by my doctor. Which literally takes 1 minute and then would need the injured appendage splinted and wrapped. That takes less then 10. Showed up to a ER with a waiting room that had no one waiting to be seen and was made to wait over an hour and a half!

When I told the receptionist that I've been waiting over a hour and a half for literally something that a nurse, Er tech or any one who knows how to cut a cast (super easy just need the tool that will cut it) and can splint/bandage that injury. To easy! The receptionist snarky replied "they are busy!" Busy?! Busy doing what? No patients in the waiting area and a hour and a half with out being even triaged! That's not busy! That's neglect and boarder line malpractice!

My husband had his vaccine shot today. His appointment was at 11:00-11:20am He was in and out by 11:33 am and that includes 15 minutes of waiting timeafter the shot. Awesome Job and very professional to all there. Thank- you for caring.

Overall, my visit to Huggins warrants a three. The ER seemed fabulous. Short wait. Lovely and kind people. The facilities are nice and new with individual rooms, not cubicles. It comfortable, friendly and calming. I went in for a C Diff concern. They sent me home with a kit so I could bring in a sample because I could not give one there. The website says they close at 8pm.

I got there just after 6 and it was already closed so I went through the emergency department to leave the sample. The receptionist gave me directions to the lab. Easy enough to find. The hallways were empty. The place seemed deserted. No one was in the lab. I could hear voices, but no one came to the desk. I picked up the phone as it said to do on a sign but no one answered. Finally, someone happened by and I left my sample.

She said nothing about getting the results. I figured someone would call. No one called me with the results. Not the lab. Not the ER. Luckily, I had registered for their portal and just happened to see the results. Three days and nothing. No call. No follow up. Zero. I chose the ER over urgent care because they did not take insurance. Seems like the Wolfeboro/Alton area has few options for good medical care.

I would not recommend Huggins Hospital. Incompetent staff, the rudest people I have ever dealt with when going through an emotional time. Don't look for sympathetic nurses in this hospital. Husband fell at home due to current health problems. Taken by rescue, unable to stand on his own. While in the hospital, husband asked for water & urinal because unable to stand or walk.

The nurse on duty brought in water & urinal and placed it out of reach. When he said I can't reach it, she said well, you're going to have to try. What are you going to do at home. When talking with nurse myself, she told me she did not like my tone of voice and if I didn't change my tone with her, she was going to hang up. If you're looking for care at this facility, you're not going to find it here!

They actually don't deserve even one star. Probably the worst hospital I've ever had to deal with, aside from the doctors, they're great. We have had billing issues for my daughter since Sept 2020. They were sending mail to an address that does not get mail and were well aware mail does not get delivered there and to send it to the PO Box. In September I called because we were getting collection notices on bills we never received.

I asked them what bills were there so I could pay those, which I did. They're ruining my husbands credit, through no fault of his own AND they have sent bills to collections in my daughters name. Who is a CHILD. I'm not even sure how that happens but way to go on ruining a child's credit before they can even get started in life. Fast forward to now, we have not seen one new bill since October and now getting bills from before September 2020 when I paid all the bills that were there.

I have tried calling billing NUMEROUS times. To this day I have gotten zero help with this. I still have no clue what hat is owed there. Last Friday, I finally got a call back from billing who told me they would send me an email with what unpaid bills are there. It's now a week later and I have gotten no email. I called during the week, left messages with no call back. Robin did call me back today (she was pleasant) and told me she would email me on Monday.

I'm curious to see if I actually get an email from them. Other doctors offices have told me if there was a balance owed if I was in for an appointment or they would call me about it. Huggins does not do this. I can only imagine how they would feel if this was happening to them. The switchboard operator is as rude as they come and that's putting it nicely.

I honestly can't believe they have someone with her attitude being their first line of contact for the hospital. I've had spoken to her many times and most recently I tried to tell her I didn't want to be transferred and instead was wondering if there was an email address I could contact billing with but she didn't let me get far enough to ask for an email, instead she spoke over me and when I asked her to let me finish she wouldn't and continued to speak over me and just transferred me without even telling me where she was transferring me.

After I got transferred, I once again, got voicemail. I called back AGAIN and asked for her name, without saying one word she hung up on me. I called AGAIN, I said "can you please tell me your name" she refused to give it to me, she instead raised her voice at me telling me she was transferring me, when I didn't want to be transferred nor did I even know where I was being transferred too or for what reason.

I then had to call back AGAIN and ask for the person who is in charge of the hospital. I believe I got the voicemail of someone named Jacquline or Jackie who I also left a message for. I hope whoever is in charge of this hospital looks into this situation. I can guarantee I'm not the only person this has happened to. The employees of this hospital are some of the rudest people I've ever had contact with.

It's not just switch board it's other receptionists as well. The switchboard operator who was working today 4/16/21 should not be working there. I don't know how a hospital can have someone be their first line of contact that is so unbelievably rude, callus, speaks over you and doesn't listen to what you are trying to ask. Let's not mention hangs up on your patients and offers zero help.

I know there are many people who live near this hospital and will not use them. Instead, they go to Concord. Which I'll be doing also. Huggins, your hospital needs better training for your employees in every aspect of a business. Perhaps invest in that. Your employees represent the hospital, especially your first line of contact. It's clear they hate their job and are miserable. I'd expect better from a hospital but I'm finding you truly do not care about your patients.

I got to meet Dr Michael Giovan this past August in the ER after I fell camping. He was able to set my leg and point me in the direction I'd need to go when I returned home. The ER team was great. I saw Izzy in radiology and Amanda was my main nurse. I was able to have my own private, quiet room. The staff made my family and I feel comfortable. Thanks for helping me.
