Austin Eye was founded in 1969 when Mitchel Wong, MD began Ophthalmology practice in Austin, Texas. Over the past 53 years, Austin Eye has grown to include 3 Ophthalmologists (Eye Surgeons), 3 Optometrists, a Staff of approximately 60 employees, 2 locations, an Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgical Center and a State-of-the-Art Laser Vision Correction Center.
Shannon Wong, MD is the CEO of Austin Eye - One of Austin's premier practices specializing in Premium Lens Replacement, Cataract Surgery and All-Laser LASIK surgery. Austin Eye was founded in 1969 by Dr. Shannon Wong's father - Mitchel Wong, MD who retired in 2019 after 50 years in private practice ophthalmology.
Dr. Kimberly Pham was born and raised in San Jose, California. She received her Bachelor's degree from University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern California College of Optometry. She went on to complete her residency at the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto, CA specializing in ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, and low vision.

Pretty satisfied with the clinical experience, the people were generally courteous and professional. However, not satisfied with the insurance claim process. My medical insurance covers the $65 refraction fee which I told the front desk, the tech/nurse, as well as the OD. Yet they asked me to pay because "most" medical insurances don't cover it. They just had to listen to what I told them about my medical insurance, that it's covered.
I later emailed them for a receipt for the refraction to file a claim, which they sent. Turns out they filed the claim too and got paid so emailed them again asking for a refund which is in process. If I hadn't checked, they would've sneakily gotten paid twice. It does look like they generally try to take care of patients quite well and I appreciate that but they could use some help in listening to what people know about their insurance.
I'm getting my money back but I had to waste my time (probably worth what I'm getting back) figuring out all of this. And it doesn't seem very trustworthy to ask a patient to pay for a service and then file a claim for the same service.

Great service by Dr. Wenn, but be extremely careful to ask what is covered under your insurance and what they are treating you for. They are all about stealing your money. I went in for a specialist visit (they did nothing more than a basic vision exam and eye pressure check), and two follow up visits, and at each appointment they told me everything would be covered through insurance.
A month later, I get a $200+ bill for basic services, and had to fight with my insurance after the front lady at their office refused to understand that the firm literally lied to me about my coverage. One of the more dishonest vision practices I've had to deal with, they are not transparent with their patients at all, based on my experience and the other reviews left here.

I went here to get treatment for my dry eyes. It went very well, everyone was super nice and professional. The doctor took the time to explain what my actual problem is and all of the possible solutions. I feel great so far but I'll keep in touch with them if I experience any more issues with my eyes.

The staff is wonderful! Very curtious, knowledgeable, and reassuring for Lasik. The Lasik surgery itself was amazing. They had me in and out of there within 45 minutes, and that included signing in and a short waiting period. The actual surgery lasted 10-15 minutes which is incredible. About 3 hours after surgery, I could already see results. It's been 7 hours now and I've cried tears of happiness. My vision is so much better than it was. Dr. Shannon Wong and his team are amazing and I cannot thank them enough. Would recommend them absolutely!

My wife and I have seen Dr. Mitchell Wong for years, and I have had an operation from him, too. He's a special person. His son, Shannon Wong, just performed surgery on me this week. After previous meetings with him, then the surgery this week, I am very pleased to be able to say the same about Dr. Shannon. Both Doctors Mitchell and Shannon are good human beings, also.
They generously are donating a large amount of dollars to medical eye training, etc., here in Austin, through the new medical school part of UT, I believe. Besides being very comfortable with them both in a medical sense, I am happy to say that I'm honored to be their patient and appreciative of their down to earth relationship with me and with all their patients, I'm sure.

I just had my right eye done and it was a painless process. The left eye was done 3 weeks ago and it is now 20x20. I have worn glasses for over 50 years and this is going to be a new experience without glasses. The nurses and staff are very personable and informative. I was impressed with Dr. Shannon Wong and the entire staff at Austin Eye, from my initial consultation, through my pre-op exam, iLASIK procedure and follow up. Dr. Wong was very attentive, honest and informative. I had some very specific expectations about how I wanted my vision correction's end result to be, and Dr. Wong worked with me patiently and diligently and made it happen!
