The Carithers Pediatric Group, established in 1941 by Drs. Hugh and Connie Carithers continues to build on its long tradition of providing excellent care for children in Northeast Florida. Both Dr. Hugh and Dr. Connie were instrumental in improving the standards in the field of pediatrics on the state and national levels.
Pediatric care involves a very different dynamic in terms of patient care. Instead of just a relationship between patient and doctor, a good relationship must be established between doctor, parents and child. Quality pediatric services are provided when trust and communication is established within this relationship.
We provide comprehensive care to adolescents including preventative check-ups, health risk assessment, nutrition counseling, gynecological care and STD screening. Sports physicals, college physicals and vaccines and TB screenings are available. Our providers at The Carithers Pediatric Group are experts in all aspects of pediatric illness.
Patients that receive a statement from our office are expected to remit a full payment upon receipt unless previous payment arrangements were made with our billing office. If your account must be referred to an outside collection agency for non-payment, a fee will be added to your account to cover the expense incurred from the agency.

There's nothing worse (in my opinion) than when your child isn't feeling well. My little guy woke up at 1:30am with a really high fever. When we got up later that morning, he had a slew of symptoms, so I called the pediatrician's office and left a message on their nurse line. About an hour later I received a call back from one the nurses.

I let her know his symptoms, his temperature, and asked what I should do. She recommended bringing him in for a sick appointment. Luckily for us, they had a sick appointment available same day, so we snagged that appointment. I proceeded to try and make him comfortable until his appointment. When it was his appointment time, we say in the parking lot. I'm grateful that this practice is still taking appropriate covid measures by having you stay in your car until there's an open room available.

I responded to the text and let them know we were waiting in the car. When a room was available a nurse called and told us which room to go to. We made our way up to the office, went to the correct room and waited. A few moments later a nurse came in, asked his symptoms, weighed him, and said the nurse practitioner would be there momentarily. Jack came in, made my little guy feel comfortable, and some questions (I really appreciated that they asked him how he felt and spoke to him).

They opted to do a flu test, since he had mentioned it's been going around. Fifteen minutes later the test came back negative. NP Jack recommended giving him fluids, using Tylenol, and not having him go back to school until he was 24 hours symptom free. Pros: -Friendly office -Same day appointments -Two locations (one downtown and one by Ikea) Cons: -My little one feeling horrible Tips: If you're unsure what to do or to come in for an appointment, contact the nurse line, they're always willing to help!

I'll have to say, I'm impressed with the way Carithers Southside does business. As we make our way back to normalcy, Carithers still manages to keep everyone in mind and sort of allows folks to do what they feel comfortable as it pertains to their individual preferences. From what I've seen, masks are welcome but not required. The staff are all friendly and welcoming - even though there are procedures in place to facilitate an expedite in and out experience.

For me, the sign in process that gets sent to you beforehand makes everything smooth. You can literally check in, fill out paperwork, and pay your copay from your phone or tablet before you even arrive. As a parent with multiple little children.it's the little things that count. Lol. Seeing the doc took a little bit, but during this time, that's expected.

You can tell that even though the facility is kept very clean, it's a busy season. One thing I really admire is the doctors have their students hands on, and don't make the experience weird. They don't hover over them, they trust them to do what they've been taught to do. As a person that's went through an FTO program, I think this is a wonderful way to build confidence and produce staff that will keep reviews like these coming.

My family loves Carithers. The doctors are great, the office is clean and very welcoming for kids. I have recommended to everyone I know as the best pediatric group in Jacksonville.

When we first moved down to Jax we had to find all the essentials: new doctor, new pediatric dentist, new ear nose and throat doctor, etc. Luckily I had asked my sister if she liked her pediatrician for my niece and she said yes, so I gave Carithers a call. Our first appointment wash for a flu shot for the nugget. We made an appointment, we were able to check in online when we arrived.

We waited about 15 minutes, since they were having a shot clinic and most kids there were getting flu shots. When it was nuggets turn we were brought back. The nurse asked us a few questions and then he got his shot. It's always a crappy visit when you see your poor kiddo in pain and scared about a shot. The next visit was a wellness visit. We arrived and checked in online.

We waited maybe 10 minutes for our appointment. We were brought back and the nurse that saw us was delightful. She was so interactive with him, making him feel at ease. When the doctor came in he was super nice, checked the nugget's ears, which is always a task since having tubes, he hates having his ears checked. Before we left, due to him crying because someone had to check his ears the nurse gave him a LEGO duck set.

It was a lifesaver and such a nice treat for him. Pros: -nice staff -ease of checking in online -easy to make an appointment Cons -getting his ears checked Tips: you can pay online and save a card.

I've been attending Carithers Ped Group since my son was born. Most of the doctors are excellent. Doc. Cheek was our personal favorite. He was always pleasant, upbeat, and willing to assist. We had our first unpleasant experience with Dr. Williams, who sent us home once and tried to send us home a second time even after we explained having to take our son to the emergency room after the initial visit.

At this point we were on day 4 of my son having a high fever amongst other symptoms, lethargy being one of them. She was still trying to send us home for another two days. At this point we asked her did she have kids and to put herself in our shoes. She then decided to run more labs and saw my son's white blood count was high and he was fighting a bacterial infection.

Up until this point they kept telling us it was viral and he had to fight it himself. It was a horrible experience for a new mom. My biggest gripe of all with this office is when you call, you can never get anyone on the phone. You have to leave a message and wait for someone to call you back. During the holidays, the office had a message saying they were closed when they weren't. It's already hard to get in touch during normal hours.

This was the main reason we decided to switch pediatricians. There have been other encounters, however these stand out the most. We love Dr. Cheek and wanted to stay with Carithers just for him but our son's health is more important.

My kids have been going to this practice since birth. The office is bright and welcoming. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I always schedule with Dr Connolly for well visits. My boys love talking Star Wars with him. He always takes the time to listen to concerns and explain things. I never feel rushed through a visit. Only thing I don't love is the call in process of always having to leave a message. Other than that I highly recommend this practice.

My son had a scheduled appointment almost an hour ago and we are still waiting to see a doctor. We have been sitting in a room.waiting. its infuriating. It's a well visit, an appointment that was booked well in advance yet all we do is sit and wait.

Updating review. Physicians and PAs are great, very helpful and kind esp to the children. Have had great encounters with everyone we've seen thus far. Not easy to get a hold of - The process to schedule appointments is not easy, have to leave a message for them to contact you back. If you have to call the on-call dr though in th evenings they do get back to you within 20 minutes. Rooms are small, half the size of regular rooms. Sinks for hand washing and only have hand sanitizers for staff.

My first time at this location since they relocated from Deerwood Park. The group of doctors here have always been professional and attentive since my kids were born and placed under their medical care over 10 years ago. The new place has a large lobby with a TV and chairs. I remember there being books or magazines to read before, but I am not sure.

Besides the TV there isn't anything else to the waiting room. There is a 2nd location in Riverside. If these are convenient locations for you, I highly recommend this Pediatric group.

My son is now nine months old and every experience with this group has been excellent. From the nurse at the hospital to the doctors we see now, everyone has taken the time to make the process of becoming a new parent easier. Presently we do our best to see Dr. Connolly as he has done a great job setting us at ease about various parenting challenges we've faced.
