At CTPO, each patient and their family is treated with patience, kindness, dignity & respect. Our pediatric orthopedic doctors and medical staff have the extensive experience and specific training necessary to offer your child the very best care. Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics was founded in 1990 by Dr. Jay Shapiro, with the mission of serving Austin's community and setting the standard for exceptional pediatric orthopedic care.
I was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis when I was 10 and I began to see Dr. Gottschalk when I was 12. As someone who has seen many doctors, I can say there are few who are as kind as he is. I have undergone almost two dozen surgeries over 8 years with Dr. Gottschalk and he was with me every step of the way.
At CTPO we believe in building a culture of giving back. By combining our efforts in charitable giving and volunteer activities, our staff is able to share their voice and work together to create a greater impact. Each year members of our team travel with the Children's Surgical Global Outreach of Central Texas, to Guatemala where we partner with the Moore Pediatric Surgery Center to offer pediatric orthopedic surgery. We screen over 100 kids from all over Guatemala; most travel several days to get to the Moore Center in Guatemala City.
CTPO has helped care for Austin's children for more than 30 years. With locations in Austin, Cedar Park, Westlake, Four Points and Southwest Austin, we are a committed team of more than 70 talented professionals, all focused on the orthopedic needs of Central Texas children. We're buoyed by the joy we receive from supporting each other and improving our patients' lives. We serve the families in our community by providing the most advanced pediatric orthopedic healthcare available and we love doing it together.

Dr. Gottschalk and his staff was amazing and treated us with respect and dignity. They were proficient and on time. They made the whole experience pleasant and comfortable. I would highly recommend them hands down and the doctor was such a hoot with my special needs son.

My son has fractured his arm twice now. The first time when he was 4 and, most recently, at 8. Both visits have been amazing. The nurses, doctors, and front office staff are all incredibly kind and welcoming. Couldn't imagine taking my kids anywhere else!

CTPO is absolutely fantastic. I've taken all my kids here and every doctor we've seen has been wonderful! We tried taking our daughter to another orthopedic once and it was a disaster. I'll never take my kids to anywhere but CTPO now. They're so kind with parents and SO good with kids. They really know pediatric joints and bones and they kindly explain everything to kids and parents without sounding frustrated or condescending like they're looking down on you. It's scary for a parent when your kid gets hurt. I so greatly appreciate the friendly staff and patient and amazing doctors. Continue the great work!

It is very difficult these days to find good service, especially towards the end of the workday. Dr. Murdock's bedside manners were spectacular. After his assessment of my sons leg, he was able to communicate to me what had happened and options to move forward. Not only he seemed truly concerned about my son's health but he was also concerned how the situation was impacting my family. In short, he shed peace on the situation.

My sweet baby girl had a fractured leg at 3 months old. We went to the ER and had a follow up with Dr Murdoch. He put my mind at ease and thoroughly explained what the fracture was and how it would heal. I felt like my little girl received the best care both at Dell Children Center and at the follow up appointment at CTPO. Thank you

Brian Kratz is a world class physical therapist. He has worked with my son for almost two years and saw him through double foot reconstruction. In that two years my son cried, laughed, and worked through his injury. Brian has that special something-the ability to get my son to work, make it seem fun, and instill hope. He can talk truth about the healing process and get through to my son when I can't.

I cannot put into words how special he is. Dr. Dehne is a very special doctor. He is technically on top of his game. His skill as a surgeon is unmatched. What makes him so special is that he cares for his patients as his own. He has a great bedside manner, answered all our questions, and continues to follow our son. He has seen my son since he was a toddler and when the time was right corrected both his feet. You wont find a better guy or surgeon.

My daughter broke her arm. CTPO got her in the next day. Everyone including the front desk staff, PA, tech and Dr. Gottschalk were great. The treatment plan was explained in detail and my questions/concerns were addressed completely. The team made the process of dealing with my daughter's broken arm seamless.

Amazing team! This office functions like a well oiled machine. Everyone we've dealt with has been professional, kind, and compassionate. Dr. Kaufman and his team are top-notch! They had our son (and his very nervous parents) at ease immediately. They took time to answer all our questions, were incredibly thorough, and never made us feel rushed. The best!

Dr. Kaufman is amazing. He did my son's spinal fusion. He really cares about his patients. I knew my son was in good hands with him. I highly recommend Dr. Kaufman.

We had a great experience at ctpo- everyone including front office staff, PA Madison, tech, and Dr Souder, were caring, knowledgeable, and efficient. It is so hard when your little one is injured, but the great care we received made everything easier. Thank you!

We were on vacation when my son got injured. We took him to an urgent care for xrays, while on vacation, and they did not show any fracture. After 2 weeks of my son not healing and continuing to limp we came here. The office got us in pretty quick. They were very professional, kind, and took to time to listen to our story. The PA was very knowledgeable and suggested taking new xrays which in fact showed a fracture in my sons leg. We are very thankful we came here. Got him booted up and on his way to feeling better!

Dr. Murdock is our superhero! I can not say enough great things about our experience with him and CTPO. Our daughter's spinal fusion was a such scary prospect yet Dr. Murdock's skill (he came very highly recommended) and compassion (he went above and beyond) gave us comfort, confidence - and a successful outcome - all for which we will be forever grateful.

Dr. Murdock has such a great bedside manner. He's very thorough and detailed oriented in explaining diagnosis and x-rays to patients. I know he's a pediatric orthopedic doctor, I wished he saw adults too . all in all a very good doctor and highly recommended. The office staff at Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedic Barbara Jordan location were very nice as well.

Recently, after a knee injury, my son had a visit with Dr. Hilton Gottschalk at Central Texas Pedatric Orthopedics. It was our first time to visit. Everyone I encountered at CTPO was very professional and courteous. In addition, not only was Dr. Gottschalk knowledgable when examining my son, assessing his situation, and giving us feedback; but, he was also very compassionate. I am extremely satisfied with my recent CTPO experience and would recommend them to anyone in need of orthopedic assistance for their child or a child they know!

When my daughter was ordered to go to PT following ankle surgery I envisioned going to few sessions and coming home with exercises on a piece of paper and the therapist calling it a day. To my surprise it's been 16 weeks and she's ready for her VB season! Kevin McHorse did such a great job working with her to build back her strength. He managed to keep a teenager motivated, committed, and engaged which is a feat in itself. I am beyond impressed and thankful.

Dr. Williams and his team are wonderful. My daughter is 14 and just diagnosed with moderate scoliosis. They took the time to explain our options and how things will be for her going forward. I would recommend them to anyone needing pediatric orthopedist care for their children.

Great experience, Dr. Souder was great with my 6 year old daughter. She was seen for a forearm fracture and everyone involved in the whole process was friendly, professional and answered all my questions. The vibe of the whole office from check in to check out was pleasant. You can tell these people thoroughly enjoy working with children & love what they do.

Outstanding! Dr Souder went above and beyond in his care of our little patient. He was extremely professional throughout, explained in detail all options we had available, guided and supported our decision - without any pressure or sugarcoating. The facility seemed to be well equipped and maintained. We had to wait for about an hour but we were kept informed about the delays. Everyone we interacted with was very nice.

Everything in this review is my opinion.(I went to the one in Cedar park) This place recommends x-rays before the Dr. even sees the patient. Nice. I come from a medical family and this is not standard practice unless it's obviously warranted, ummm, it wasn't even close. Of course since there is no consultation about any reasoning behind an x-ray or how much this costs or even see a Dr. before x-rays, you feel a little strapped over a barrel, like you're a bad mom unless you spend an outrageous amount of money for x-rays you don't need.

I actually brought my daughter in for another issue which they did an okay job with. However, she fell the day before (very, very mildly swollen wrist and NO bruising). I only mentioned bc we were already there! Never again. Apparently, the doctor needed multiple x-rays to tell me the obvious. She hurt her wrist, it's sore. Duh. Thanks. Don't go here unless you're prepared to walk out with a minimum of a $700 bill.

I really hate it when medical professionals soil the name by taking advantage of patients. Not to mention: As a new patient you pay $497 for literally walking in the door. They conveniently don't mention that as they say "oh you can pay after services" hahaha. I'm sure people would get the #*%#%#% out of there if they knew highway robbery was about to happen. And they charged $75 for a Velcro wrist band that you can buy at Walmart for $15. In my opinion, you have to question the legitimacy of this practice.

We have had 2 different broken bones and both times the doctors here took excellent care of us. Dr. Gottschalk was kind and caring and explained everything to us and got our girl taken care of quickly. Dr. Ellington recently did surgery on her arm and was amazing. So great and patient with kids. Got her fixed up and we are on the mend. I can't say enough great things about these doctors and their staff! Thank you for helping my kiddo!

Should have got no stars. Dr. Dahne is now fired as our child's doctor. He highly disrespects his customers and their time. He acts like we owe him, even through we're the paying client. If you're willing to disrespect the adults, then I can only guess your intention with my child. Shame.

Have not been in yet, but the phone scheduler was snippy. I had to ask her to slow down because she was listin at lightening speed a half a dozen items I needed to get from the physician before coming in. She did not apologize and proceeded to take on a bothered condescending tone. Not a good first impression at all.

I would give one star, but giving the benefit of the doubt to the actual service provided by the MD. The wait, questions and paperwork are about as bad as it gets. I was asked for insurance, name, dob for myself and my kid at least a dozen times verbally and/or on paper. What is the point people?

Dr. Ellington performed my eight year old daughters surgery at Dell Children's after she broke her elbow and had to be admitted with immediate surgery the next day. She had to get pins in her elbow, the whole nine yards. Dr. Ellington went above and beyond to make sure my daughter was comfortable and that we understood everything about the surgery, and explained everything so thoroughly he really put our minds at ease.

He is SO good with kids and making them at ease prior to being wheeled back into the O.R. He actually took the stuffed animal she'd brought along to the hospital back into the O.R so "Lilly" (her stuffed bunny) could have surgery too, so when my daughter awoke, Lilly had a matching cast! Every friend I've shown the pictures of Gracie and Lilly have been blown away that he thought to do that. Brilliant.

The aftercare he's provided has been great. Everyone we've encountered associated with his practice has been impressive. If only we could find a primary care pediatrician as good as him!

Don't go here! Like some of the other reviews, our experience was awful and they will gouge you on charges! It started out with all the ridiculous and irrelevant questions on the new patient forms. Next, the front office staff is very rude. Lastly, the charge was outrageous! They charged $872 for a 15 minute consultation with the doctor and 1 x-ray that was probably unnecessary since they already had a current x-ray on file from ARA.

I called the office manager who was also very rude. I will be following up with my insurance company when they process the claim to verify that they applied the right codes and the charges were legitimate.

We had a wonderful experience here! From making the appointment all the way through check out, everyone was pleasant and patient. We saw Dr. Gottschalk and his PA, Morgan. Both were very friendly and great with our 2 year old. We only waited a few minutes past our appointment time before we were called back, but once we were, everyone came through very quickly and we were out of there in less than 30 minutes.

I would definitely recommend this doctor and his staff to any of my friend or family! The only annoying part was parking--allow yourself extra time for that and be sure to bring a credit card for quicker entry/exit.

Love this place, looks like I might become a regular with my son breaking his arm so often. The recent visit just affirmed my love for this place Where Dr. Ellington was able to do a closed reduction inspite of letting us know the possibility of surgery. I appreciate the effort and time he takes to talk to us, unlike most places where just the PA does everything and you don't even get to see the physician. In this " consumeristic healthcare market. I am happy to actually see physicians really " bringing the Care in healthcare" at this s place.

Taking a moment to write a review for Dr. Gottschalk. He has taken care of our daughter with a complicated elbow break and is now taking care of our son with a fractured finger. We first brought our daughter into the ER on a saturday evening around 7 pm. Due to the nature of the break they paged Dr. Gottschalk, who had been at dinner with his wife and friends, in to the hospital to take a look.

He couldn't have been more welcoming, gracious and calming to worried parents. He did the reduction that evening, completely missing his evening out, rather than have her come back the next day, and did a beautiful job. His patient skills with kids are terrific and its adorable to see him manage to get them to smile and feel safe even when they are hurt. My daughter healed with full and perfect range of motion and Dr. Gottschalk followed up several times to make sure she was healing correctly.

Organized, quick and work with children's strengths. The work on a system with the clinic that took his initial x-rays, and they were able to pull them up. Saved us money, time and hassle. The pay parking garage was very full. Plan on a few extra minutes to find a parking spot.

Our appointment was originally set for 2:45pm.after patiently waiting for 45 minutes, I got frustraded and asked how much longer until my son would be seen. The receptionist advised it would be shortly that there was only one Doctor on duty. Ridiculous, the lobby was full of patients. 15 minutes after, they finally moved us into another waiting room, where we waited for another 30 minutes.

The techs were super friendly, but I guarantee you that had WE been late, they would have charged us and turned us away and rescheduled us. Apparently peoples time is not really important to them.

I had a heck of a time trying to get an appointment here via referral. The front office staff (with the exception of the kind and efficient lady at the waiting room front counter) was snippy and cold. AND the wait was incredibly long on the day of our appointment (45 minutes-1 hour). HOWEVER, the PA was sweet as pie and the doctor (although rushed) was helpful.

The lady that did my daughter's cast was also extremely patience and gentle with her. My biggest complaint is probably the fact that this is a pediatric office and building, and they don't have things to keep children occupied during the long wait times in the waiting room. They have two very old used and abused bead mazes and that's it.

No books or even adult magazines for kids to flip through and look at pictures. The maze that has activities on the side is broken and frustrated children who were kicking it and screaming. I was even looking for a pamphlet or some sort and there was nothing to be found or provided when I asked. My daughter was bored after 5 minutes as were the other children.

In the interior waiting rooms they had some very used kids books and blocks and a chalkboard wall for kids to write on. If this was in the waiting room (and some books out there or a tv) - kids would be occupied for so much longer. It wasn't the most pleasant experience. I won't give the name of the person that I would really love to complain about but she told me (without being a doctor or pa, without seeing my daughter, and without seeing the xrays) that my daughter would need surgery when I inquired about an appointment.

Can I just say how PARANOID and in tears I was for those 5 hours it took to actually get the appointment scheduled, freaking out that my little would be having surgery. Shout out to MARIAH who is a sweetheart and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. She stands out and deserves an award. 5 stars for Mariah.
