Emergency Room treatment or lack thereof. After vomiting for days and having bleeding from my uterus, my youngest son took me to UT ER. We arrived around 19:00 to a totally packed facility without being able to find many chairs available. The only employees seen were a few in the Registration area and two girls around 20 years of age who were Certified Nursing Assistants fresh out of school (they were running the ER).

About 01:30AM my vitals were taken along with blood-work. A CT was also done at this time. We then proceeded to wait until 04:00AM to hear anything about mt condition. The entire time I was bleeding heavily and suffering from lack nutrition, hydration, and sleep. I decided to leave AMA (against medical advice). I did not make this decision lightly as I have worked in hospitals (including this one) for over 10 years.

Upon returning home I threw out my UT medical shirts, given while employed there and vowed to never ever go to this ER again. The next day I went by ambulance to a GOOD ER with proper management to obtain fluids, an ultrasound, as well as a referral to a specialist for surgery. I will be returning to the second ER exclusively should the need arise in the future.

They treat you so good here. I have always been treated with great respect here. They have excellent doctor's and nurses. The receptionist are great here also. I don't dread going each month to UT. I am at ease when I visit. The only thing that I dread is the drive.

I needed therapy to deal with the trauma from this place. Rude staff, mistreatment, and a lack of accessibility.

Had surgery in October 2019. Fairly complicated from what I was told. Dr. Kleppe was great, as were all the nurses. Two nurses in particular stood out Stephanie & Will. Think it was the 6th floor, not sure. But in the middle of the night, all alone in a hospital room, not sleeping because you nap all thru the day & TV is just boring, it's nice to talk to somebody & Stephanie & Will never seemed rushed & treated my post-op pain in a very timely matter.

And the food.oh my gosh, the food was awesome. You can order pretty much anything right off the TV. As much as you want or the Doc allows. Wish I had one of those TVs at home . Just a great all around experience. I've been to hospitals in St. Louis, Houston, Detroit which were all competent places, but UT, ya'll better than any of them hands down.

Hope Stephanie & Will faired well during Covid & respect & thank yous to all involved in my stay including a particular pre-op nurse, older lady, don't know her name, she had a very calming manner & that helped as I was very nervous about my surgery. She had an almost angelic influence on me prior to surgery. Again, big thank yous to all involved in my stay.

Only tertiary care facility in the region. Has the best surgeons in town. Academically they are consistently at the forefront of all medical care and practicing the standard of care. I would not be getting any of my care anywhere else outside of possibly elective general surgery procedures. The cancer department is the only one in Tennessee that performs HIPEC surgery. They also have residency programs in many different medical and surgical fields making the staff constantly on top of new care options and novel research.

Every experience my husband and I have had at this hospital has been an administrative nightmare. 2 emergency room visits of 10 hr or more duration and a surgery stay of 2 days that was supposed to be 1. The nurses and Dr's here are fantastic! Caring and hardworking. The administration however is the most inefficient I have ever seen. If you have had all your discharges put in by the drs why are you holding families hostage for an additional 6 or more hours.

The day of the surgery we had to wait til 5pm to get in our room. Why? Because the patient they discharged at 8 wasn't actually discharged from the room til 5pm. That means my husband was alone in recovery for 6 hrs. We couldn't be there with him and the other family was held hostage in his room til 5pm. Was he charged for another day? For the same room we were being charged for that day?

Now here we are holding up another family who's loved one just had surgery because from 6am to now 12pm no one has come to discharge us. Are you charging double for the same room again today and every day? What's going on UT administration cause your nurses are taking the backlash for this while you are sitting up there screwing with people.

Wish I could give 0 stars, UT medical center hires night shift nurses that allow a disabled vet to sit in their own soiled garments overnight while they're having a party 50 feet away. Also would not bring him any water or food until we arrived later that morning. You would think such a well know medical center would have more respect for their patients especially a 100% disabled veteran. If you want your family members and loved ones treated this way this is the place for you.

Brought 6 month old baby to the laboratory in building B room 119 for an allergy test. They pricked her in 3 areas multiple times searching for a vein, failed to draw any blood, and we went home with no results. Only a stressed baby. They told us to try another hospital. Don't bring your kids here.

I just got surgery done to extract an infected organ. It went amazing and was a fun experience overall. The nurses and doctors were super nice to me. Great overall because I recently went to a previous hospital then here, and could've underwent septicemia because the other hospital didn't do their half.

The evening of March 26th I went to another local hospital with unbearable back pain and abdominal discomfort. I was discharged from the other facility after being told the pain would go away. As a 30 year old man I have never been to an emergency room for myself and have always been in great health. My wife fortunately talked me in to going to UT Medical about 12 hours after being discharge from the other hospital and I am glad she did.

The UT staff we're great and very caring. The quickly diagnosed that my gallbladder needed to be removed. Additionally the noted I had a very serious infection as a result of my gallbladder failing. They kept me informed throughout the entire process and I truly felt I was in the best care available. The staff had me in and out of surgery quickly with little to no pain afterwards.

I was able to get out and walk the day of the surgery to begin my road to recovery. I felt this hospital's staff did everything possible to ensure I felt cared for which eased my nerves as I was only visiting the area with my family on vacation.

The ER may have a long wait but they keep checking on you until you get a room. I see a neurosurgeon here and he's wonderful. I also see a neurologist who has been helping me. Definitely worth the 22 minute drive. A great place can have a few bad apples but I've learned from my 19 years in hospitals to speak up. I'm grateful to have one good hospital around me.

Best experience ever with surgery and recovery. The best care anyone could ever hope for. The nurses are fantastic very caring. All of the hospital went out of their way to make this as pleasant as possible. Doctors are all top notch.

Mri/G.i. registration totally lost my appointment. Stated that it was someone else's fault. Turned out to be untrue. Not what you want to hear after taking a covid test 3 days prior just for this appointment and after not eating or drinking for that day. After going upstairs to my Dr office registration decided yep. Your right your appointment is today.

I did have to wait an insanely long time but it finally got done. This was not my Dr's fault or the nurse's in the lab so I definitely would not be a pain to them. ( All were incredibly nice). Lady at registration on the other hand decided to tell everyone she worked with about the situation including my name, what I was there for and how I should not have said anything. My point is HIPPA should apply to registration as well as staff.

In 2017 I was in UT Medical Center's ICU for a week then the Pulmonary ward for another week. While in the ICU, I was not giveny prescription medicines, and then was accused of taking my own from home, which they'd made me send home. In 2014 I was in for C-Diff, which I'd had for over a month. I was very sick, but after 2 nights, the next morning they came in and basically kicked me out.

Same thing in 2019 with a severe Diaphragmatic Hernia. I had surgery(pain was barely treated), and was trying to recover. A woman came to take me for my 'walk', then a nurse came in and said Nope she's going home! She then put all my stuff into my puke bucket. I was there tonight with another severe problem with very sever pain. I got an MRI & CT then was sent back to the waiting in a gown!

I never got any help, nothing for pain, no room, never even saw a doctor! Even though I'd been back 3 times. I know they are dealing with Covid, but they don't have to be so rude and uncaring. I will NEVER, I mean NEVER, go to to UTMC again. You shouldn't either.

VA authorized a visit to UT Colon and Rectal Surgery for Dr. C as my surgeon. I was diagnosed with internal and external hemorrhoids and surgery was scheduled for me. On the day of surgery I arrived and waited for 3 hours for my surgery. The nurse prepping me said I was scheduled to have my gallbladder removed as that was what was on my chart. I informed her that I was there for hemorrhoids.

She said well mistakes happen! While on the operating table I was informed that Dr. L would be doing the operating and not Dr. C. My surgeon was switched (without my permission) from a highly accredited and highly rated to one with nowhere as much ratings or accreditations. I was told not to worry that the nurse heard he was a good surgeon. After the surgery I had major complications and was in constant contact with the presiding nurse and drs of the facility.

The next night I had to go to the emergency room as I could not urinate at all. A catheter was inserted and a huge amount of liquid was drained. Then I had a serious infection develop and was in the most excruciating pain of my life. I ended up taking Hydrocodone one every 4 hours and 2 Naproxen every two hours. I followed all the procedures recommended and almost felt like I would pass out every time I went to the bathroom; the pain was so intense.

I had to call the nurse and resident doctors at least 5 times to get additional medication for pain, infection and was told that this was normal. I still have pain and bleeding two months later and after two attempts to contact the nurse. I still have not heard from them. This has been the worse experience of my entire life and I believe it was related to UT switching surgeons on me and receiving sub par treatment. The percentage of patients that have complications like I have had are extremely small and rare after a professional operation.

So. if you are about ready to expire and you have no place else to go, I suppose this place may be ok. But, if you go to the ER in anything other than an ambulance or aircraft be prepared to wait. The staff will not give you wait times, more than likely it is because they know that you will leave once you find out that you will be here for a minimum of 6 hours. They are severely understaffed and are unable to keep up with the volume of patients that come into the ER. My advice is to go elsewhere as it's not worth the wait.

I've had nice experiences with UT Physicians as a whole. The wait time here can be hit or miss and often I spend more time than what was first intended. I don't really get detailed instructions when it comes to procedures unless I ask or it's the day of. The receptionists have all been very helpful and warm. Overall I like coming to this facility. Though I don't enjoy hospitals

No accommodations for people traveling with family. They have no where for them to stay. Door staff told us to have kids wait in the car. really in 90 degree weather. Great staff experience. Couldn't get the hell out of there fast enough. UT medical center in Knoxville TN.

Had to take mom in for surgery. Was please to see such a huge campus, run so smoothly. Came through the Covid table in front.( friendly ladies) Noted all in masks, and folks distancing. Picked up a map at the reception desk. Headed to admitting, followed the self admitting monitor as instructed, then waited for our name. Admitting wait was 5 minutes.

We were escorted to the surgery lounge, by a super nice volunteer. We where greeted by a receptionist, she told us where to sit, distancing observed. We were there no more than 15 minutes and our name was called and the same volunteer took us back to preop room, she told mom to get dressed in her gown, we got that done, the nurse came in, then the anesthesiologist came in, her doctor came in explaining what they may do.

He told us all the possible scenarios in the tumor removal. Then the OR staff came introduced themselves, and whisked her away. After a few hours the doctor phoned me in the lounge. In her 2 stages of recovery areas, her nurses would call and update me. Bottom line, it was organized, and ran very smoothly. I am a medical professional myself, and a hospital this size to be like this is a blessing. GOOD management, good training! And it was very clean, and friendly staff. Thank you!

ER did ok, but marked false information that prolonged and complicated diagnosis process after being admitted. It seemed that they ran a gambit of tests that were not discussed with us prior to running. People just showed up for tests that we were told to have done after discharge. While apparently we we have to wait 3 days for an MRI for a potential stroke or aneurysm.

It seems that they are merely running up the bill and attempting to keep the beds full. The MRI department is a joke. 4 machines, 1 tech. They will extend our stay by 2 days and the wait will increase the risk to patient. If they are that far behind, bring in more techs for the MRI machines that are not being used.

If I could give this hospital a 0 I would. This is a TERRIBLE hospital I would NOT recommend. I understand this is a teaching hospital but after the first incident the doctor should take over not after the 4th or 5th incident. Can not perform simple procedures with out causing more complications. The neuro floor is ridiculous and does not seem qualified to be a level 1 trauma center. Could never get ahold of the case manager when needed had to call multiple times a day and would never receive a call back. Avoid this place if possible.

Insane to read poor reviews. I received such incredible prompt and knowledgeable care. My standards are very high with OHSU as my hospital. My physician was skilled, prompt and most of all cared for my needs with empathy and thoughtful caring. I can not say more about the emergency room experience with severe allergies. She was a rock star, the facility was amazing.

You are lucky to have these skill Levels in Knoxville I am So blessed the downtown hospital left me waiting for five hours and offered to have me buy eye drops with my eyes swollen shut. Now that is deplorable health health! I required a shot steroid drops and a doctor that actually cared about Serious allergic reaction. She knew what she was doing Ty ty ty

BY FAR THE WORST HOSPITAL IN EAST TN! my uncle was rushed from cumberland to it medical to have surgery on 2 broken heels. he waited 3 hours for pain medication and 6 hours for a room and never got one. he laid in the hallway for 6 hours just to be turned away and told to come back in 10 days to maybe get an appointment. UT Medical is a joke, wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy

Go elsewhere! They talk this place up a lot.oh Level One Trauma Center.what bs. They let residents.as in MDs with ZERO to minimal training treat patients. Oh and you have medical students learning on you too.even less training. UT cares nothing about their staff which may be in part why the care is so horrible. They lie to the staff, expect staff to go above and beyond in their work w no compensation $ or time off for overtime. Dont get hurt there as an employee b/c they will throw you away like garbage.no good to them anymore.

The last time I went to the ER, I was extremely short of breath. The waiting room had 4-5 people in it AKA VERY SLOW NIGHT. I waited over 2 1/2 hrs, and the triage nurse hadnt even checked me. I LEFT. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN FOR ANYTHING. There are other excellent choices!

Best hospital stay ever! But honestly I'm giving a five star based on the nurses who were with me I stayed in the 800 number rooms and one nurse in particular I swear miss sue is amazing! No I'm not related or anything she truly made me laugh everyday even getting stents put in my heart she warmed it! She drives from Kentucky and loves her job and I truly felt she sincerely cared for me like a mother almost and she didn't like other nurses checking on me lol keep her! There and keep her happy!
