I recently had the bad luck of having to go to DCH ED due to chest pain. I was given an EKG and taken back to the waiting room. A few hours went by and they did a blood draw then back to the waiting room. After over a six hour wait I was taken to an exam room and they decided I should be admitted due to irregularities in my blood work. No rooms available.

I was left all night in the exam room with no blanket or pillow. My blood pressure went up but the hospitalist who saw me didn't write any orders even when I told him I needed my blood pressure meds. Also was told I could have pain meds if needed, but when I asked for some I was told the doc left no orders. So I spent the entire night without any of my meds, no food or water and blood pressure out of sight Finally around 3 am a nurse finally took my blood pressure and was able to administer meds tho not my regular meds.

The next morning a very sweet PCA named Taylor come in to check my vitals and could see I was in great stress. She rounded up food and something for me to drink. She was the only person who was helpful to me. The traveling nurse in charge told me it was unlikely I would get a room and would have to stay in the ER another night. Luckily for me I convinced the doc to release me that day as I told the nurse I would check myself out if I had to.

This is unacceptable as this is the only hospital available for over 50 miles. Some one needs to take over this hospital and try to rescue it. Until then, I will drive the extra miles to Birmingham when I have an emergency.

If you ever have an emergency, you'd do better driving the hour to Birmingham than coming here. I'm typing this literally as I'm waiting here. I've been here for going on 7 hours and was put in a triage room an hour ago to wait on a doctor. No one has come to remove my iv and no one has Given updates. Stay away!

It's a shame that I have to leave this one star review because there are some medical professionals here that actually do care about their patients. However, you had better pray that you have an actual appointment with a specialist. If you're planning on going to the ER, you'd be better be ready for an hours long wait, regardless of the condition you're in.

Several years ago, I came in after a car crash with my scalp torn open. Despite the possibility of head trauma, I was not assessed for almost 4 hours. The non-medical employees also do not care about the patients at all. Today, my wife and I came in for her CT Scan. I had just cleaned our car top to bottom, so we didn't have disposable masks. The security woman at the front said that they did not have any, despite having a box right in front of her.

Her coworker pointed them out to her. At this point, it could have been viewed an honest mistake. However, she would only give one to my wife. A party of two here to figure out a mystery medical condition, and she was about to make me drive back home for a mask, leaving my wife alone at the hospital. The way that patients (by and large) are treated here is unacceptable. I wish people would use more compassion and less judgement in their daily lives.

My mother just passed away at this hospital last week, I flew all the way from California on emergency leave and we went to see her. We went to get something to eat and we were told that we were not allowed to come back up that same day. It was before busting hours had stopped. The nurse gave me the wrong information about her health, they also left my mother there cold with no blanket on her.

They way I saw it is my mother was just a number and that's it and on to the next person. Stay away from this hospital, the people there don't care and they are loud and ghetto!

Had a friend recently come into the Emergency Room. While she laid in the bathroom floor of the waiting room vomiting with severe back pain for the seven hours we waited to see an RN/MD, I explained the current situation to the reception employees, who clearly relayed none of this information to any provider considering they had no idea she had even thrown up at all.

She was quickly "seen" by a doctor who "sent us on our way" (which wasn't the case anyways, we were still there for another hour waiting) with a prescription and referral to a different physician before anyone even asked any questions about her condition. Only after the doctor left did someone come in and ask her questions. Front desk and members of the nursing staff were rude and dismissive.

Will be recommending that anyone in Tuscaloosa that can make the drive to Birmingham for care goes. I've heard horror stories from other patients and former employees but this was the final straw. No one in this establi seems to care at all about patients.

This rating is for the staff who took care of my husband during his recent stay. My husband was admitted through the ER after having a heart attack on 01/21/2022. He had 5 bypass surgery on 01/25/2022. I can't say enough great things about the nursing staff that took care of him. They all were great and worked so hard. The only thing I would say that I think should have not happened is when my husband was released.

The doctors said his numbers were great and he was doing good, which I thought too. There was something going on that was not noticed. He was released to go home on 01/29/22. Unfortunately, after being home for 3 1/2 hours, he had complications and was rushed to the hospital. He passed away.

I had a wonderful experience at DCH for an outpatient surgery procedure. I hate there are so many negative reviews, but I'm hoping this 5 star review will cancel some of those out! The nurses, doctors and all staff were so very nice and professional. They were on time with everything they said they were planning to do which I appreciate. They were comforting and even asked during my visit if there was anything they could do to have made my experience any better.

All of the nurses even signed a card and sent it home with me afterwards! They called to check on me several days after the procedure and once again we're very communicative and helpful. Very please with my whole experience at DCH!

Worst hospital ever. I came in at 10 in the morning and had labs done and some medicine and was put back out in the waiting room. Not one person acknowledged me or made sure all was fine. Finally at 6:30 pm I had enough and went up there for the staff to be rude to me and just tell me I can check myself out if I wanted. I'm not sure I've ever been to an ER that has no care about anyone there.

They wouldn't even give me my results. But they sure could get there food deliveries and chit chat the whole time. In tears there. Just horrible and I don't think they care if you live or die. Hopefully nothing was to serious.

My daughter lost her phone after an unfortunate visit. Clair, Melissa and security searched high and low. Stayed in contact with me. I know this seems like a little thing, but during a pandemic and burnout, I appreciate them. Especially since my daughter attends school in Tuscaloosa and we are 8 hours away.phone was found, forever grateful.

Our son in law is sitting in triage now for over an hour with stroke symptoms and no one has seen him to even to order tests to determine if he is having a stroke. Stroke protocol must be done within the 3 hour window. They say they have no beds, but they could still evaluate him and order labs and CT. That much could be done. If it is a stroke, then he doesn't need a ER bed.

What if it is an aneurysm? Time is of the essence and certain symptoms should take priority. We have spoken to the ER multiple times via phone since no one is allowed inside to speak for him since he can't remember what happened. His father-in- law is a CNO at another hospital is sitting outside and was not allowed to even tell the staff what he witnessed.

We work in healthcare and understand staff shortages and bed shortages, but a potential stroke patient cannot be ignored. We pray it is not a stroke or some other major event, but we won't know that unless a doctor evaluates and listens to the family that witnessed the event. Shame on DCH!
