Some moments we share with special people along the road of life are utterly unforgettable. When hospice patient, Dawn, was admitted to Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care, the path of her life started to change. WGN-TV (Channel 9) News at Nine featured Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care Case Manager, Molly Davies, RN, CHPN as part of a special five-part series celebrating Nurses Week.

WGN's Medical Watch went on the road. Hospice is a philosophy of care intended to make people's last days as comfortable as possible.
Services
Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care was founded in 1981 as a non-profit, community-based organization. Founder Betty Brosius was inspired to create a hospice organization by the struggle she and her husband faced during his experience with terminal illness. Betty Brosius and three friends establish Rainbow Hospice as a community-based hospice serving patients in the northwest suburbs.
Volunteers are present for Rainbow journeys. As a Volunteer, you will bring simple kindness to patients, bereaved, and their families. You will have the opportunity to lift up your community by helping to provide critical services and support to patients and families. Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care Volunteers serve in many different areas of Rainbow that fit with their interests, schedule, and location.
Hospice is a philosophy of care intended to make people's last days as comfortable as possible. When the time comes that a cure is no longer probable, hospice provides comfort and support to patients and families so they can focus on what matters most-living life. Hospice is not a place, but rather a type of care that can take place wherever a patient considers home. In most cases, hospice care is provided in the patient's home, but it can also be at a hospital or the Rainbow Hospice inpatient unit, the Ark.
Rainbow's medical director works closely with our patients' own physicians regarding pain and symptom control and directs the hospice plan of care. Our staff nurses visit patients' homes or places of residence to assess conditions and level of comfort. Our nurses teach family members how to help control symptoms.

My grandmother was on hospice care for 6 months. During these tough 6 months, Rainbow hospice was exceptional. My family was new to the idea of "hospice care". They had little to no knowledge of what hospice meant. Let alone how hard it could be. The social workers, CNAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors were phenomenal. They were communicative, professional, and always went above and beyond their job description.

They took the time to talk with everyone in my family and take it day by day. They explained what would happen as it happened and answered the sometimes tedious questions and concerns they had. I am a nurse who works in the hospital setting. Taking care of a loved one was also an experience I had little to no training on. Not to mention taking care of a hospice patient instead of a patient in the hospital. Pam, my grandmothers nurse, helped guide me every step of the way.

She is someone that I will always hold close to my heart for not only taking care of my grandmother, but helping me to educate my entire family (even on the weekends) and encourage me to do the job I do on a day to day bases. I could not think of a more beautiful way for my grandmother to pass. Thankfully Rainbow Hospice was there to guide us in our time of need. Thank you Rainbow! Especially Pam.

Unfortunately I cannot give zero stars. I am so angry at the way my father and my family were treated. If you're looking for hospice care completely lacking in compassion or sympathy you've found it. I am so thoroughly disgusted with this company. Do your loved one and your family a favor and do not use this company.

You too will never forget the 1st time you receive a call telling you that your mom's doctor has written an order for hospice. Three Hours Later. You will NEVER forget the company that lied about your doctor writing an order for hospice. Move on to any other provider and don't look back.

My husband has been a patient with Rainbow for over a year. I just want to say that It has been so wonderful to have the loving and caring people of the Violet Team helping us. Everyone on the team has been great. They have always been there for me when I call and are very responsive to our needs. I highly recommend Rainbow.

ETHICALLY CHALLENGED - BUYER BEWARE! This is the kind of service that you do NOT want to find out the hard way that they do not have their clients best interests at heart. If they hard sell you on putting your loved one into a facility "for respite care" while you currently have caregivers in place and a good working system for them you have to ask yourself whats in it for Rainbow?

Why would they ask you to risk transporting someone in hospice, from the comfort and safety of their home and a working system of caregivers (who are already providing respite care by the way), and moving them into a facility where they could possibly contract an illness or infection, receive an injury or even simply become upset outside of their regular environment while they are supposed to be receiving the most compassionate care they deserve? KEEP LOOKING!

I have to write an honest review here because MY honest review was tossed on Yelp because they pay reviewers and it is obvious as they solicit donations through them.t. I had a horrible experience here with this place regarding my father in his last days. They were nice initially but nice does not butter the biscuit concerning the care my father could have received if the nurses would have actually cared about him as a patient not a number.

The nurses were flippant and it took HOURS for them to come. They were pretty bad as they second guessed me when it came to how my father felt, . They are NOT doctors nor relatives The quality of care was pretty shoddy and I wonder how everyone is giving them a glowing review as I my experience was quite the opposite as I never met any of these team members either.

It was a poor experience and I would never put a loved one here again. It was heartbreaking to me as well as my family as these reviews influenced me my decision to use this place for my father's last days which were horrific thanks to them. Very dishonest for them to have yelp reviews that they pay for as that influenced my decision and I am sure they are laughing all the way to the bank. We wish someone would have took out th time to put this on yelp but yet they pay them!

This place is not as advertised on Yelp as I noticed this women below confirmed my fears that our family was led on. The nurses were not very compassionate nor was the treatment for my brother up to par. He was very uncomfortable the whole time. Their attitude against my brother made all of us very uncomfortable. False advertising is never a good sign. We will spread the word at our Church. This is the last place that should be donated to as I do not donate for them to pay yelp.
