Mohs Micrographic surgery is a specialized, highly effective technique for removing skin cancers. It was developed in the 1930's by Dr. Frederic Mohs at the University of Wisconsin and is now practiced throughout the world. Mohs surgery differs from the other skin cancer treatments in that it permits the immediate and complete microscopic examination of the removed cancer tissue so that all roots and extensions of the cancer can be eliminated.

Take a shower or bath in the morning before coming for surgery. This helps decrease your risk for infection. Also the initial bandage must stay on and dry for two days, sometimes making it difficult to shower. Bring a friend to keep you company in the waiting room while you are waiting for the lab work to be completed.
