Gerry Russell H CIHC was founded by Denise J. Hanson, Psy. After visiting Wilmington, North Carolina for many years, they found it to be a truly unique city because of its location, beauty, resources, and most of all, its people. They decided to leave their group practices in the Boston area and move to Wilmington in 1999. They wanted to develop a group practice based on an integrated model of health care, recognizing that physical health and emotional health cannot be separated. The Mind-Body Connection has long been accepted, but mind and body are still treated separately in most health care practices.

I chose this doctor because of the great reviews but was very disappointed on my first appointment. I received multiple appt confirmation texts and emails beforehand, all of which I replied and said "yes" to. But when I show up to the place, which is over an hour away from my house, the receptionist tells me he is out sick today and claimed she called me about it multiple times - the only phone calls I got were about appt confirmation, NOTHING about him calling out sick.

This receptionist then tells me I could be put on a waiting list for an appt 2 months away. She had no empathetic emotion and didn't apologize. Based on the other reviews I imagine this doctor is fine, but whatever happened today was confusing and unprofessional in my opinion, so other people should be aware. I have never had an issue like this before with other doctors.

Hands down the the absolute BEST Dr. In the world! He has saved my life in so many ways, but when I see him he Is the best spirited person I have ever had in a Doctor. He has saved my life every visit I see him! I thought he was a phychiatrist, but was astounded the he was not, because of the talks of how to make it through with his caringness of my feelings and the mental health talks were better than ANY other phychiatrist. I Love you Dr. Gerry!

This seems to be the ONLY Doctor who my Son helps and not by writing a bunch of drugs but by listening and trying to understand his needs. Anyone with a child over 18 or under should go to this man!

Dr. Russell Gery has saved my life more than once, and he ACTUALLY wants to get to know his patient. There are not any Docter I trust more. He does Psychiatry and general health, what more can you want! He listens to you and remembers everything even once you see him once every 3 months, but if you need some one to talk to you can call and schedule before the 3 month session.

I have been to mental hospitals 9 times and tried A LOT of doctors in Wilmington, NC and none has cared more! Except Dr. Mathews, but Dr. Gerry takes the cake. I LOVE THAT DOCTER! And Medicaid exception!

I loved this doctor felt like I was being heard. However I was called on about 4 different occasions the day of my appointment to be told the doctor wouldn't be able to see me because he wasnt in office. One time I showed up for my appointment ( I live almost 45 minutes away) and was told he wasnt there that I'd have to reschedule. I have 3 small children at home it is hard for me to find a sitter. Anyways I had to call in on 3 occasions because my kids were sick on my 3rd my 8 month old baby at the time had a fever of over 100, I called that morning informing the staff of the matter.

I was told the doctor would no longer see me via a letter in the mail a few days later. So it seems that only doctors are able to call in with emergencies, I guess the patient doesnt matter. I tried calling to speak to the doctor because the letter said I could. I never received a response. I'm very dissapointed, so instead of the 5 star service review I would've given I give 2 stars because this just isn't how you treat people.

Dr. G is the most professional yet competent and compassionate doctor Wilmington has. He knows each and every one of his patients because he spends time with getting to know the person in his exam room. I wouldn't trade him as my Dr. for anything!

Best doctor in town- bar none. Things like quality of patient care, relationship with patient, caring about the end and means rather than just the end itself, and a model for healthcare at large all resonant with the heartbeat of this practice.

Without divulging specifics, one could say I'm so familiar with doctors that I should submit my manuscript to Wiley & Sons: 'Physician's For Dummies: A Reference for the Rest of Us.' The Doctor who is my main physician (Dr. G.) would probably do more good in the world if he taught a philosophical/psychological course in med schools on 'The proper way to interact with patients' plus a relatively rare concept: 'Doctor's who actually care about their patients well-being.' i would hope that if he should read this, he will NOT ponder my suggestion, as this would be considered a self-inflicted gunshot wound through my sneakers. The Staff also deserves a 5 star rating.
