Gomersall Janice R 1922: Western Montana Clinic has humble beginnings as five doctors merge their talents in an office near Higgins and Main. Dr. Smith, described as a soft-spoken Missoulian with a dry sense of humor, had honed his highly regarded surgical skills as an Army surgeon in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. After visiting the Mayo Clinic, he was impressed with the potential advantages of group health practice.

The four other founders were P. T. McCarthy, a graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, an able young surgeon who had graduate training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston; J.F.S. Marshall, who practiced obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics; John T. Holmes, who favored general medicine and managed the laboratory and x-ray department; and W. J. Marshall, a practicing ear, nose, and throat specialist.
Services
The Western Montana Clinic, Family Medicine Department had the first meetings of their Patient and Family Advisory Councils or PFAC. The PFACs were held at Jaker's Restaurant in early November. The benefit of the PFACs was the insightful and truly valuable information that was garnered from our patients.

I was recently diagnosed with CRPS and have had a history of "rare" bizarre connective tissue issues such as frozen shoulders to current CRPS. Dr Smith heard me and was a true advocate. Because of him I know now I have an underlying autoimmune disorder with centromere pattern providing not a cure but hope for personalized therapeutics, rest and ability to regain some normalcy. Thank you Dr Smith and Natalie for your advocacy and care.

Have had wonderful experiences with both my daughters pediatrician and my OB. Appts were easy to make and any time I left a message with concerns, I received a callback by end of business day.

While the care we received at Western Montana was adequate, we are highly disappointed in the experience overall. We were told three separate times that we were "definitely" in network, including after providing our insurance information for verification and after receiving several very high bills. While we agree it's patient responsibility to check insurance coverage, generally providing insurance information to the medical office to have them check and being told multiple times yes would count as verification. Be sure to check your own insurance if you go here!

Due to coronavirus I can't bring my child with me into appt, but I can't afford childcare Especially in a town where I don't live, I drive 2-3 hours just to get here and don't have childcare. Virtual appts are not working I'm not getting any help. My illness is not under control in fact I'd say it's worse then it ever has been, and I cannot get the help I need. Edited to add: I now have 3 voicemails and 1 phone call in, and I have not heard back. Update 2-2021 Rheumatology keeps cancelling my appts without telling me, and I haven't physically seen them in a year and a half, only telehealth which isn't optimal for this.

They also don't have a reason for why appts are canceled. And I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get there. I refuse to show up and not have an appt because they cancelled it without telling me

First time patient in OB. TAYLOR the phlebotomist was amazing & fast didn't hurt and only took one time to get my blood. She was Great! The two ladies upfront in intake were sweet and very kind to my daughter which made me feel very comfortable. The sonographer was nice as well.

I have been a patient here for 30 years. They laid off my primary care provider and refuse to give me an appointment saying none of their providers are taking new patients. They said I could submit a new patient request but it would be low priority. They should have publicized that they were firing their longtime patients and abandoning existing patients. They clearly have abandoned all responsibilities to the community. Seek care anywhere else.

A nurse, and one of the remote zoom counselors didn't use my correct pronouns, then the nurse got mad and exasperated after the fourth of fifth time we asked her to use my correct pronouns, then she passive aggressively used them and made us uncomfortable. Made us wait for long amounts of time even though we were literally the only ones there, the nurse also forgot her mask at one point.

I was also told a therapist would call me the next day to talk with me and get me set up with a therapist and possible medications (since I had a safe place to go and they had no beds). Never heard from the therapist.

Now I understand why this place gets terrible reviews! I waited almost 3 months to get into an appointment here. Arrived for said appt today, and while trying to park I got stuck in a line of cars stopped due to a car fire and firemen/a firetruck in the parking lot of the clinic. When I finally was able to park and literally run inside, I was told that I was just a few minutes too late to be seen, even though I waited months and drove AN HOUR to get to this appointment- a fact I explained to the staff.

Staff was curt and unapologetic, despite the fact they could see the situation/fire from their window! And it was obviously completely out of my control. I explained I would wait as long as needed to be seen, they offered no apology or options, besides rescheduling, which meant to wait another 2-3 months. Needless to say I did NOT reschedule. Now after reading these reviews, I feel like I made the right decision - these are obviously not the type of people you want managing your health.

At the very least they could have offered some measure of kindness, an apology or a waitlist I could be added to, but apparently that's beyond them. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with this Clinic.

I had a great experience with this office while I was pregnant and during birth, but all care following birth has been terrible! It seems like they don't want to deal with me any more. Their billing department is ridiculously incompetent. I received numerous bill summaries each month for 8 months following delivery! A regular appointment this January, I received the bill in the mail 3 months later!

The check-in staff is extremely rude. Every time I check in, I avoid one girl because she actively rolls her eyes. Every time she tells me my insurance card fails to process. But there is nothing wrong with my insurance card; I have quadruple checked on it on my end. No other office has those issues. And just scheduling appointments here is difficult - often there's no availability for weeks. Recently, I had a new issue come up and they refused to see me.

They referred me straight to a surgeon! Well, after calling 3 - one of whom they referred me to, I discovered that no surgeon will see me without a doctor's referral. So I went round and round until I finally gave up on WMC and called a different OB who was happy to see and treat me. As much as I appreciate the care I received during birth, it will be difficult for me to return to this office.
