Dr. John K. Hong is double board certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Medical Doctorate degrees at Cornell and Tufts Universities. After an internship in General Surgery, he completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center and then a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Hong is the founder and President of Gateway Spine & Pain Physicians. He serves as the medical director of inpatient and outpatient pain management at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Hong is a recipient of the Patient Choice Award every year for the past five years and the America's Most Honored Professionals Award multiple times, an honor given only to the top 5% of physicians in the country.
Jennifer Hinchley MSN, APRN, FNP-C is a Nurse Practitioner certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from Chamberlain University where she graduated with honors, Magna cum laude. Jennifer has over eight years of nursing experience in various settings including the emergency room, immediate care center, oncology, and pediatrics.

I've been seeing Doctor Hong for over seven years now. He listens and makes everything a partnership. He believes pain is a real problem and not just imagined, which is more than I can say about many doctors. He honestly does his best to treat my pain and offers suggestions to help improve my quality of life. Dr. Hong is the best pain management doctor I've seen in the 30 years since the injury that has left me with the intractable and chronic pain I live with daily. The staff is always friendly and helpful also.

I've been treating with Dr Hong & P.A. Stacie Wharton for some time. I'm extremely satisfied with their method of treatment. Dr Hong is a great listener with outstanding bedside manners. Dr Hong's method of treatment has been a conservative approach. I appreciate everything that he's done for me. I highly recommend him, not only is he a great doctor, he's also a very cool guy.

I would absolutely recommend Dr. Hong and his associates at Gateway Spine & Pain. Dr. Hong is a brilliant doctor, and he changed my life - every single day of it - for the better. And he's not afraid to have the hard conversations about meds, and balancing overall health & pain management. PA Stacy is fantastic too. She is a great listener, and she's always open to my ideas or suggestions. If you are serious about managing your pain in a healthy, proactive way, this is the place for you.

Dr. Hong is a very caring physician. He listens to your concerns and discusses in detail the plan for your health care so you are part of the process. Have had lower back issues for a long time and Dr. Hong and the treatment he has provided have lessened the pain and enabled me to enjoy and do things I haven't been able to do for a long time. Would recommend for all my family and friends. Very professional and caring staff also.

I have a complex medical history and status. That being the case, I go to great lengths in choosing my doctors to include education, experience, specialties and patient interface. I've found Dr. Hong and his team exceptionally thorough and knowledgeable. I intend to remain his patient in the future. I find him to be empathetic, professional, understanding and resourceful. In short, he is a great part of my medical team. I highly recommend him and his practice. Three locations make it easy to be seen.

Super friendly staff, always on time with appointments and a very professional office! Dr. Hong has helped me reduce the amount of pain I've been in for years. I was a patient of another pain practice for a number of years and they could not help me like Dr. Hong did. Dr. Hong is patient and understanding, I would recommend him and his practice to anyone in severe pain.

Gateway is the absolute best group of pain physicians whom I have ever worked with! They take such good care of me and really care about my health. Dr. Hong, Stacey his PA, and Dr. Kalin, are truly wonderfully kind people and I totally trust them to always speak honestly with me, and to provide me with the best treatment possible. And the staff of nurses and the beautiful ladies in the office are Amazing! I HIGHLY recommend Gateway Spine & Pain Physicians to everyone who is experiencing pain! They DO NOT give up on you!

Dr. Hong treated me with complete professionalism and compassion. My treatments from him were ALWAYS successful and relieved my back pain. He listened to any concerns or questions I had regarding specific issues re: treatment. Unfortunately, transportation became a problem as I live far away, but I strongly recommend Dr. Hong and his team to anyone suffering from back problems!

I've been a patient of Dr. Hong for about 4 years. I'm doing wonderful, I had radio frequency nerve ablation over 1 1/2 years ago and I'm doing great. I'm able to work a physically demanding job and have a life outside of work pain free. Highly recommend Gateway Spine & Pain to anyone feeling exhausted from pain and sleepless nights. His care for his patients is real and he takes time to listen and find solutions for your care.
