Integrative Medicine is oriented toward health, wellness, and prevention in addition to treatment. It is informed by evidence, takes lifestyle into account and places importance on the relationship between the clinician and the patient. David Riley founded the Integrative Medicine Institute (IMI) in 1992 to study the growing healthcare crisis in the United States and inform healthcare decision-making. His particular interest has been in practice-based research with a focus on integrative therapies and outcomes.
Services
One of Dr. Riley's primary interest in medicine has been to investigate the evidence supporting health and wellness-evidence that drives change in clinical practice. He has used the systematic collection of data from patient encounters and systems-oriented approaches to healthcare delivery to explore sustainable models for clinical practice.
Dr. Riley has participated in the development of health research reporting guidelines for medical journals beginning with CONSORT in 2000. In 2011 he led the development of the CARE Guidelines-reporting guidelines for case reports. The Institute offers training in writing, editing and publishing case reports following the CARE guidelines to a variety of stakeholders from practitioners to academic institutions to policy makers to industry.
