If you have aortic stenosis, surgery should be considered if you have symptoms such as chest pain, fainting, or irregular heart rhythm. Surgery is also recommended if the valve becomes more narrow over time. The aortic valve is subject to life-long stress and may become narrowed (stenotic) with age.
If you have an aortic aneurysm, surgery should be considered if you have pain, the aneurysm is enlarging, or the size is larger than 5 cm. Surgery or endovascular repair is safest before the aneurysm ruptures. An aortic aneurysm is dilation (enlargement) of the aorta, the large blood vessel arising from the heart and coursing down through the chest.
Ablation of isolated atrial fibrillation should be considered if catheter-based ablation has failed. Surgery should also be considered if the atrial fibrillation is resistant to cardioversion or anti-arrhythmic therapies. Patients that cannot tolerate anticoagulation or antiarrhythmic medications are also candidates for the GALAXY procedure.
Surgery should be considered if symptoms are limiting. CT scanning or bilateral venography is usually required to diagnose the obstruction and to assist in planning the operation. The superior vena cava is the large vessel that drains blood from the head and arms. Obstruction (blockage) of the superior vena cava impairs this drainage, leaving the arms, neck and head swollen and uncomfortable. The obstruction can be caused by an external process, such as a tumor or other growth, which gradually narrows the superior vena cava.

Had a great telehealth visit with Dr Doty! It was my first time meeting him, he is very professional, knowlegable, personable, kind, and considerate, and after a very busy morning (I had heard) too. If I end up having surgery in the future I will feel very confident with him as my surgeon!

We owe my husband's life to Dr Doty! He met with us promptly and gave us realistic expectations about the CABG procedure he was headed in for. He didn't act rushed and was very kind answering our questions. He has a great bedside manner and was easy to talk to. He did a perfect job and the wounds healed up nicely with no complications. He made me feel like my husband was his priority and not just another patient. Highly recommend him!

Dr. Doty is a very caring person, and is so positive that it helped us to have confidence in him and feel that everything would be okay during my husband's heart surgeries. I would definitely recommend him to others as a very qualified and skilled surgeon as well as a kind and positive person.
