If you have cardiac risk factors, but have never had a heart attack or stroke, you will be evaluated by a board-certified cardiologist who specializes in preventive cardiology. Together, we will review your medical and family history and, using proven risk calculators, assess your risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
The doctors of Cardiac Specialists have special expertise in the long term management of difficult to control hypertension. Hypertension, is often called the silent killer because it can exist without symptoms. This condition, if left untreated, can lead to early disability and even death. Techniques for management of high blood pressure and guidelines for control are constantly changing.
Atherosclerosis, or the build-up of fatty plaque in your blood vessels, is a systemic process affecting all of the arteries in your body. Therefore, the same medical conditions, like smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, that lead to blockages in the coronary arteries of the heart, also cause blockages in the arteries in the rest of your body. If these blockages occur in your legs, you may experience pain, discomfort, or weakness in your calves or buttocks, which limit your activities.
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a broad term used to apply to a variety of heart conditions characterized by a constellation of symptoms usually including shortness of breath, fluid overload often resulting in leg swelling, fatigue and diminished ability to walk or exercise. CHF can be caused by other heart diseases including heart attacks, heart infections, heart valve problems, and hypertension or high blood pressure. Once CHF is diagnosed, a complete heart evaluation is often performed including echocardiography and other non-invasive or invasive tests.

If I could refer literally everyone that I know to Charles Staples, I would. I was a little nervous about seeing my cardiologists APRN for surgical clearance.
