I have been a patient of LRHC for many years, but today I am very disappointed with the Walk In Clinic. I went in and it wasn't very busy. At first I was told I may not be able to be seen for a spinal/coccyx injury because they aren't equiped for that. I was understanding of that, but then I was told I lucked out and the XRay Technician working today was spine certified. Great!

I patiently waited to be seen. When it was my turn, I limped to the room barely able to hold myself up. The nurse offered no assistance to me, just told me to take my time. The nurse took my vitals and she was polite and professional during that process. I was then told to wait for the doctor, that one person was being seen ahead of me. No big deal.

I tried to get comfortable, but I was in a lot of pain. An ice pack was provided but it did not feel very cold or helpful to my pain. Then the XRay Technician comes in and takes me to the XRay room. Again, I limped in pain with no assistance. The technician was polite and even shared with me how she had a similar coccyx injury to me in the past. The XRay was taken without incident. Then, I limped back to my room and waited for the doctor, again.

Not too long after, Carrie Affield, PA, enters my room and introduces herself as "Carrie." I had been on the phone with my toddler, so I hurried to hangup. She then explained to me that she cannot rule out fracture because my X-ray shows constipation (although I'm not having symptoms of constipation). She did not perform an examination to determine the source of my pain.

She did not perform a skin assessment to look for abnormalities following my back injury. She sent me on my way telling me to take Tylenol, but not offering any before I left. I could have stayed home and taken Tylenol. I came in because the pain was excessively bad. But, I wasn't even able to be examined by a doctor or PA? How is this an acceptable standard of care?

A patient who has a pain level of an 8 should be within their rights to have an exam performed. I then limped out of the Walk In Clinic with nothing to help my pain. No recommendation to follow up with my primary. No recommendation to see physical therapy. No fresh ice pack. No coccyx cushioned pillow. Nothing but advice to take Tylenol and a large bill.

I don't even know if my back is fractured because she "could not rule out a fracture." I have never felt so dismissed by any Lake Region employee in my life. I regret seeking help for my injury and now have to take myself to the emergency room to hopefully be taken seriously for a coccyx and possible spinal injury. Thank you, Carrie Affield for refusing to examine me and help me when I was in gut wrenching pain. I do not recommend anybody see this provider. I will be sure I never will again.

Having only needed 2 annual checkups in the past 2 years since coming to LRHC, I am stunned to have been denied an appointment or diagnostic to check for a possible blood clot, which I had also had many years ago. My doctor's staff told me I couldn't make an appt. for that, and told me I also couldn't go to urgent care or walk-in to get it checked out.

Prior to this, my primary Dr. at LRHC told me in my annual visit I needed to make sure I made an appointment, and was seen if I ever had symptoms of a blood clot again. After denying me an appointment, the staff at my doctor's office was about to hang up, when I also tried to make an appointment for an ultrasound, which is a standard of care for potential blood clots.

She reluctantly agreed to transfer me, but the lady who schedules those appointment told me she wouldn't. I then asked if the ER had an ultrasound to check for a possible blood clot, and was told they may not check for one, and more importantly, the person who does ultrasounds is only on-call, so they may not do an ultrasound, even for a person with a history of blood clots. Essentia/Sanford Fargo were full.

That night, after not being able to get care at LRHC, my arm became paralyzed, and 2 mos. later still has not fully healed. Although Patient Care at LRHC took my call about my concerns that I was not allowed to make an appointment or get care, no steps have been taken to resolve those concerns, or to even give me any reassurance the lack of standard of care will be followed in the future.

I got a second opinion via a phone call last week, from my prior out-of-State Primary, who told me I should have been seen by LRHC to avoid complications from a blood clot, like paralysis of my arm/shoulder. Because of this, and because my LRHC doctor expressly told me I should be seen with blood clot symptoms, I am disappointed in the lack of standard of care, and follow-up/disregard by Patient Care.

I truly believe that it is possible that LRHC may not have always been like this. But, staff get their direction from their managers. So, if staff procedure has changed to deny patients with acute issues appointments or standard of care, LRHC needs to take steps to change those procedures. Patients who make the effort to stay healthy year-round, and always follow their doctor's/primary's instructions, should be allowed to be seen to get standard of care the rare time they have an acute issue.

They fired Dr. Jeffrey Horak for standing up at a school board meeting and saying parents should be in charge of their kids medical decisions.

I was recently at LRH for 4 days. The nursing staff was great! Courteous, friendly, respectful and caring. Prompt with response. It was great to see that nursing continues with the patient's well being the first concern. Dr. Alle was also great. He was explanatory, respectful, thoughtful and caring. He followed thru with his orders and and would return during the day to check on me. The entire staff was wonderful!

My experience with a family member's trip to the ER and subsequent hospital admission went so smoothly. Staff were all very king, professional and proficient. Here's a shout-out to the chefs and cafeteria staff as well!

Update: I was misdiagnosed and treated unfairly. Apparently, if you are eating for two and get permission to eat in one area, the emergency department won't let you eat even when you get down there and tell them you haven't eaten anything all day. Then, they take so long to see you that if you don't leave without being seen you may continue to get dizzy and anxious.

That's exactly why I left without being seen. They tried to stop me because of something they diagnosed me with and called me back a couple of days later to tell me I didn't have.

I need to share my five star rating for practitioners during COVID. We had a family member who hadn't been feeling well for a few weeks, they offered a complete panel and while my loved one tested negative to most everything, they caught that what they were suffering from was a bacteria caused by a tick bite (not Lyme's, but a different one) and were able to get them on the right path to wellness! AWESOME! Thank you! During this scary times, it helps to know we have quality care and specialists working to keep people healthy! :D Thank YOU!

My parent received excellent healthcare here for nearly a week after falling at home. I cannot say enough about how well we were treated by the ER staff as well as the hospital staff. Even the cafeteria staff made us smile on some of the coldest days of the year because they were so kind. Thank you!

The office staff has been helpful but the ER doctor wasn't professional or detailed at all! He didn't put any of my symptoms, history or current meds in his write up (8 hours after visit). Therefore, my insurance isn't covering the visit. Instead of $100 copay (which I paid), I now owe over $500. Very dissatisfied!
