What is a cataract? Cataracts are the clouding of the eye's naturally clear lens, preventing the passage of light needed for vision. The lens focuses light rays on the retina - the layer of light-sensing cells lining the back of the eye - to produce a sharp image of what we see. When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays cannot pass through it easily, and vision is blurred.
If the drainage angle is blocked, excess fluid cannot flow out of the eye - causing the fluid pressure to increase. What is glaucoma? Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve - the part of the eye that carries the images we see to the brain. The optic nerve is made up of many nerve fibers, like an electric cable containing numerous wires.
What is the Retina? The retina is a nerve layer at the back of your eye that senses light and sends images to your brain. An eye is like a camera. The lens in the front of the eye focuses light onto the retina. You can think of the retina as the film that lines that back of a camera. What is a Retinal Detachment?

I needed cataract surgery for both eyes. Doctor Vandegard and the staff did an excellent job of before care, during operation and aftercare. After surgery on each eye they give you a small plant that have grown considerably now. Easy access ample parking ada accessable bathrooms handicap parking and entrance. Follows covid protocol

It is easy to find. The waiting area is clean.as is the whole facility. Front Desk staff was very nice. The only thing that kept this place from getting 5 STARS is the way i got treated during some parts of the exams / treatments. The initial exam was very mechanical and without empathy. It started with a woman walking in (no introduction) and saying "Whats going on with you!?".after telling her what was happening, it was "Do this.do that.tip your head back.this is gonna burn". Kinda felt more like i was a car being worked on rather than a patient being treated.

I was then moved to a second room where exams continued.except this time it was the doctor.and just like the first room.it was very mechanical, not real comforting or comfortable.when she finished, she left and two other women came in.now THIS time the two women that examined me and performed procedures were VERY VERY nice.they explained everything before it happened and they seemed like they actually cared about my well being.

When they finished their part of my procedures/exams, the doctor came back in and.once again.very mechanical.no real bedside manner. When she was done, she quickly rattled off the name or drugs and what she wanted me to take and how often and she walked out and i had no idea if i was supposed to just sit there or go out or what or wait for meds or?.i had to get up and ask what i was supposed to do.

There was also no talk of the "outlook" or "expectations" for recovery. Overall, 60-70% of the staff was great.30-40% could use a little work on making patients feel comfortable and explaining things. Our 2nd and 3rd visits were about the same.

I credit Dr. Tablante with saving my eyesight. She is incredibly knowledgeable and a take-action oriented person. She's always willing to explain if I have a question about exams or treatment. The nurses and receptionists are very kind but business professional which is refreshing. All in all, I highly recommend Heartland Eye Care.

I want to rave about Dr. Tablante's expertise. I have multiple eye problems and her skill has allowed me to keep my vision for over 15 years. I trust her knowledge and care and she's truthful but kind when discussing my issues.

Dr. Vande Garde and his nurses are wonderful. They are very informative and make sure you know what to expect during surgery. From the initial appointment to the last follow-up after surgery they made me feel important and safe. Dr. Vande Garde called the evening after surgery to make sure I was doing okay and to see if I had any questions. I would recommend Heartland Eye Center to anyone that needs eye care! Thank you Dr. Vande Garde and staff for making this an amazing experience!

Not a bad place, a little unorganized when it comes to the staff. They all asked me the exact same questions that everybody else asked me and the nurses gave me instructions that differ from what the doctor told me to do.

My wife was referred there by our optometrist in October of 2015. She had cataracts in both eyes and half of her left eye was covered by a growth. Dr. Vande Garde performed three surgeries between December and March to restore her sight. She now has 20/20 right eye vision and 20/30 in the left eye. She now only needs glasses to read. The doctor and his staff were really professional, friendly and very attentive during this stressful process. These are wonderful people who care. I would strongly recommend Heartland Eye Care to anyone needing eye surgery.
