Alexander McMeeking MDPC has been treating HIV and infectious diseases for over 20 years. He graduated from New Jersey College of Medicine in 1982 and completed his residency at St. Luke's/Roosevelt's Hospital Center in Manhattan in 1985. Following this, he did Fellowship Training in Infectious Diseases at NYU Medical Center/Belleview Hospital from 1985-1987.
Of the 1.2 million Americans suffering from HIV, 1 in 8 are unaware that they are infected. In 2015, there were 39,513 people diagnosed with the disease in the United States. While startling, the efforts of HIV specialist like Dr. Alexander McMeeking have helped reduce the number of newly infected individuals every year.
HIV is most commonly transmitted through sexual contact, as well as through sharing a needle and syringe use. Less common ways to contract the disease include pregnancy, birth, breast feeding, oral sex, and blood transfusions. Often compared to detectives, these specialists are trained and licensed as doctors of internal medicine who can also make a diagnosis and create a disease treatment plan.
