Mississippi Asthma & Allergy Asthma tends to occur within families. The role of inheritance plays a less clear role in adult-onset asthma. People of any age may have asthma, but more than half the cases are found in children between the ages of 2 and 17. In young children, boys are nearly twice as likely to develop asthma as girls, but this gender difference tends to disappear in older age groups.

There are a wide variety of "triggers" that may initiate an episode of asthma. The most common triggers are allergens, exercise, viral respiratory infections, respiratory irritants and aspirin.

I was going weekly for my allergy shot. Most of the nurses are really wonderful (there was one agressive /grouchy guy). Food and cooking shows are always on the lobby tv, which are fun to watch you while you wait (personally, I love it). Pro tip: if you go at lunch time the wait isn't as long. I stopped coming because after two consistent years of shots, there was no difference whatsoever in my constantly runny nose.

The allergist told me it should start making a difference once I got to a certain dosage amount, but that dosage came and went. I was way past that point and still, no difference. The doctor would schedule check-ins for me without asking for my input. I'd suddenly get an unexpected notification the day before about the meeting time, which was always during work hours, so I was never able to make any of them.

I got the sense that he really didn't want to see me, and just scheduled the meetings as an obligatory gesture. Whenever I told him the shots didn't seem to be working he would redirect and start talking about how I needed to be taking these certain pills and using a nose spray (I used those items for two months and found no difference). I told him the spray gave me nose bleeds and he redirected again, seemingly trying to turn the nosebleeds into another way to get money off of me (he said something about "polyps").

I left from this whole process feeling very confusing and kind of used/taken advantage of. I really like the nurse staff but the interactions with the doctor soured my experience big time.

Have had nothing but good visits to this allergist. I see Dr. Atkins. First visit I was able to find out what I was allergic to. Prescription sprays helped instantly. I've been doing immunotherapy for over 6months now and don't even need to use my sprays anymore! The women in the shot clinic are wonderful. I can go in and out in less than 5 mins to get my shot. I've NEVER been to a Dr. with the minimal wait time and kindness that I've experienced here.
