In the early 1970's, Doctors Robert Haas and Michael Holmes, opened the doors to what is now called, Palmetto Eye and Laser Center. They were dedicated to providing the best patient care and offering the latest technology for cataract surgery. The practice was able to flourish and expand by adding more incredibly talented surgeons throughout the years.

Dr. Haguewood joined Palmetto Eye & Laser Center in 2002 and has quickly established a large and highly successful ophthalmology practice. He completed his undergraduate degree at Wofford College and his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. His transitional year residency was completed at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Wasted $7000! Selected the multi-focal lens package that Medicare doesn't cover. Was wearing tri-focals for 25+ years. I was 76 years old at time of cataract surgery. Everyone very friendly and professional. Separate surgery center from exam building (lots of overhead). After initial cataract surgery on both eyes, I immediately had problems with seeing street lights and car headlights without a "starburst" around the light.
Like fireworks going off in PICTURE BELOW. Dr Haguewood said this is 5th generation cataract procedure, Also have problems seeing clearly close up like on computer, reading dash board on car, paperwork etc. Had to lean over and get within 12 - 15 inches for writing to clear up. Close up vision didn't seem any better than before surgery without glasses. Was told to wait 90 days.
No change. Had to come back for another laser procedure to remove "scar tissue" on both eyes. Waited another month and 9 moths after surgery had office visit where I was told that even though I have same same conditions, I have 20/20 vision close uo and 20/20 vision far away. Then they asked if I wanted an Rx for glasses!? After paying the extra $7000, I wasn't about to get prescription glasses.
I could have gotten single vison cataract surgery covered by Medicare and bought some cheap "cheaters" to wear. Picture below in office says "NO GLASSES, NO CONTACTS, NO PROBLEMS! Won't give me any refund.

Everyone has been professional and helpful from everything from insurance to the surgery. Dr. Billy J. Haguewood performed my surgery and i have been really satisfied with the results. No pain and a lot of gain. Love being able to see again. The world is truly a brighter place since having the surgery. This office was highly recommended to us and we drove from Utah to SC and it was worth the 2000 mile drive.
We plan to do it again when my husband has his done. I did opt for contacts that would free me from glasses and after 28 years i am finally free of dirty glasses. It has been about 2 weeks since the last eye was done and I am a satisfied customer. if you are a prior employee of AT&R be sure you mention it to the Billing department.

Horrible experience. The staff was nice, but the Doctor was awful. He did not allow me to speak or listen to my concerns. I have been unable to see from my right eye since last Wednesday and I went here for help. The Doctor did not take me seriously nor care at all. He told me to use warm compresses and lubricating eye drops. I am a healthy 47yo who awakened last week unable to see from my right eye, I have worked in the medical field for 20 years and have never, ever treated a patient in such a horrible way. I guess if you are not looking to pay thousands for cataract surgery, AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COST!

Recently took a family member here for a procedure. Very nice clean office and restrooms. Staff were very professional and the nurse after the procedure was as well. My family member is retired from the medical field and very impressed and happy with their services. We would definitely recommend Palmetto Eye & Laser Center to anyone in need of their services.
