In order to see, light must pass through the cornea, then the anterior chamber, then the pupil (a hole in the Iris), followed by the lens, the vitreous, and finally it is absorbed by the retina. This pathway is called the visual axis. The retina converts light energy into electrical energy that travels down the optic nerve to the visual cortex of the brain.
Pendleton Eye Center now offers mobile bill pay for our patients! To take advantage of our new payment solution, text PAYMENT to (760) 758-2008 and you can now pay online without having to set up an account.

My experience has been mixed here. The doctors are great, no issues there. The office staff is general ok, but clearly wants to steer you to buy glasses from the on site optician. Getting an eye exam and buying glasses online is discouraged and difficult. The optician by the way, is just a mess. If you have simple needs and are willing to pay whatever, you'll probably be fine. If you need to communicate with the guy, you'll have a bad time.

Front desk personnel were welcoming & efficient with me on my first & only (so far) visit. The person who took me to the exam room and did the eye exam for new lenses was very outgoing and put me at ease. Thank you! Dr. Butler was great. She offered information without me needing to ask. She had a wonderful bed-side-manner, again, thank you. Seemed to do a thorough exam. I'm very pleased, and will definitely go there again for new lenses next year.

First time visit. I was informed that Pendleton had opened and took over from Dr. Knapp retired. I wish I had known before I went to a different place. Everyone here, right down to Dr. Pendleton himself, were very pleasant, calm & professional. Such a plus when we're going in to possibly get bad news about eye health. Worried enough without having to deal with bad customer relations & service too.

I didn't notice any pressure or attitude what so ever. The only complaint I could have is just that I wasn't referred to them before I went somewhere else which, has nothing to do with them. Exams were very thorough and explained what it is and meant. I don't see any reason I would go somewhere else. Thanks for your time & compassion. I know there doing "their job" but. today, too many people are there only for themself & a pay check. Much appreciated.

One of my worst Doctor visits in my life and at 61 tht's something to say! Not about the patient but all about the 'Money ok $240 for consultation understand but follow-up test more money then Dr. asks you to follow-up for eye pressure test What more Money! But the best the Best pay up front before service is rendered Never Ever heard of such a thing in what I thought was a professional practice guess NOT!

Oh and the Staff rude, pretentious and late Thought a 8:00 AM appointment was 8:00 not 8:05 sure I'm punctual show up 10 min till as you would expect as I'm professional and respect peoples time Not here. so 1 Star for Pendeleton Eye Center-- or Centerless.!

I had an eye exam with Dr. Butler for the first time yesterday and found her to be very thorough, professional and kind. She was reassuring and knowledgeable. From the front desk staff's greeting and check-in, to Diana, who did initial testing and was very pleasant and capable, to Dr. Butler, then to Andreas where he guided me in choosing a great new pair of glasses, the whole experience was top-notch. I've had many eye exams in my life, and thanks to the great staff at Pendleton Eye Center, this one ranks highest. Thank you!

I recently had cataract surgeries on both eyes and would highly recommend Dr. Robert Pendleton to anyone that is looking for an excellent ophthalmologist. He was never in rush as he explained the procedure, the lens options available and answered the many questions I asked him. Another positive note- I give 5 stars to his whole office staff too! They are all very professional, knowledgeable in their fields, plus warm and friendly when taking care of me. Also, I never had to wait to be seen for any of my appointments! And the BEST of ALL- I have my vision back, Thanks to Dr, Pendleton

I had my first extensive eye exam in years. Have been seen at Costco, but this time Dr. Amy went all out to really get me to the right prescription and path to eye health. Picked up my new glasses today and WOW. I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS CLEARLY IN YEARS. I almost want to cry. It's so amazing. They are the real deal.

My just concluded experiences with Pendelton Eye Center were all very positive! I found the offices to be very well organized and inviting! I was reassured by the scrupulous manner in which the staff paid attention to Coronavirus protocols, wiping down each and every piece of furniture and equipment immediately prior to use for my treatment sessions!

The personal manner and attention to detail of every one of the staff was welcoming and showed great regard for the task at hand! The completion of the medial procedures I underwent led to the successful return of great vision to me after years/(many decades) of needing corrective appliances like glasses and contact lenses! I heartily approve of the Pendleton Eye Center practice, and their services provided at their office and at the North Coast Surgical Center!

The staff are very friendly, helpful, and professional. Dr. Pendelton is very caring and does an excellent job of explaining everything so that I understand the process of cataract surgery. I have had both eyes done and am very pleased. I highly recommend this practice.

After the routine school eye check my son came home with a note from the school nurse that they want him to be checked so we made an appointment at Pendleton Eye Center. We received an appointment fairly quickly. The assistant who checked his eyes before seeing Dr. Pendleton was nice and was able to guide my son through the process. I didn't feel like Dr. Pendleton was the right fit for our family.

I think that he is probably a great eye doctor for adults but I wouldn't consider this office a good fit for younger children. As a parent I prefer to have a quick chat with the Dr. before the exam. Since there is no problem with my sons eyes that requires attention at this moment in time I feel that the testing done with 6 or so different eye drops (some of them stinging) were excessive considering that he seemed to have no problem with the initial eye test he was given.

While I gave consent for drops to be administered I wasn't aware how many different ones it would be and I would have preferred more information about what exactly is administered and why this is necessary. It was a scary appointment for a 6 year old and I wouldn't be comfortable recommending this office for pediatric eye issues.

Great place-pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Special recognition to Mr. Andreas Dima (their optician), when fixed my broken frames in 1 hour-no charge! My wife and I never go anywhere else. Cheers, Walt Bratten

I gave this office three stars for just how nice the staff is except the snotty gal who does the first step of the eye exam with eye tests and eye drops. She is not a people person and should be way in the back doing billing and data entry. She is incapable of smiling. I came here four times and have now switched eye doctors. Dr Pendleton has a RUDE and ARROGANT beside manner.

I am the 'paying patient' here and please don't kiss up to me fake but at least show a smile and be welcoming. I was told I needed cataract surgery so I went and got a second opinion. Yes, I have cataracts but it will be several years before I need surgery. Again I have smiled and said "How is your day going"? without ANY response from the doctor. Not responding is RUDE!

Pendleton Eye Center is a great place to get good eye care. The equipment is up to date and the appointment ran on time. Dr. Pendleton was very thorough and I was pleased with his advise. I would highly recommend Pendleton Eye Center- convenient location in Oceanside. Also- great selection of frames and great professional service.

1. "Get out" is a nice award winning movie that also depicts my feelings about this doctor 2. I urge everyone to read the comments and reviews for any business but for medical professionals it is a must do, especially for seniors. If I only checked the great citizen, Jay B's comments in Yelp before, I would never think about calling this office.

There are many complaints about the billing, long waiting and even bad attitude, which all are legit but also are mostly nuisance and temporary. But sometimes you may jeopardize your well-being and suffer an irreversible loss if you don't choose your doctors diligently although super majority of them are good and decent. I'm not sure about my situation and will find out soon, but I was subjected to an unusual examination and the following is my e-mail to this doctor.

You can read and make your own conclusion and if you think writing that was easy, it was not. "Dr Pendleton, On December 19, I woke up in the morning to a totally red and inflamed right eye, which was unsettling. I tried to call a few doctors and thought of going down to UCSD (I wish I did) but when I called your office Debbie.was nice to provide an early appointment, you prescribed (g) Maxitrol that was effective and when I saw you for the follow-up, on December 26, my eye was at 80% healing, but still top of the sclera was red.

My appointment was for 8:00 am, and I was your first patient. At the start I told your nice assistant that I only wanted to be checked for my right eye's problem and refused her attempt for refraction and dilation of my eyes, only because my eye was not totally cured and was planning to do the refraction at the next appointment. At the time I had only positive feelings about being your patient.

When you came to exam room, you knew about my decision for "No additional exam" through your assistant, but you were determined to do complete exam. You told me that my right eye is OK and to stop using the eye-drop. The hindsight is 20/20, and I should've got up and get out right there, but regretfully I did not. After initial exam you briefly discussed my cataract, which I knew about it and that was not blocking my lens.

Then you said that pressure in my left eye is higher than normal and per your instruction, your assistant checked my eyes with an electronic device, producing a colorful page full of charts and graphs, which after your review, you told me the results indicate that my eyes are OK. But suddenly you said that I may have glaucoma and wanted to check my eyes for that. Glaucoma? because you detected a minor IOP, which could have been for other reasons or even no abnormality per your own damn machine.

Now I think that you might've made it up to go through the exam. In the last ten years I've visited several ophthalmologists in different regions/locations because of my dry eye condition, and all with absolutely no exception told me that beside the above condition, my eyes are in good health including healthy Retina, Macular and normal pressure and treated me only for my condition, which is the dysfunction of Meibomian glands and not the Lacrimal. However, without my total consent, you started to dilate by dropping 3 different eye-drops in my eyes.

One of them was hurtful that I never experienced it before so I asked you about it, but you didn't show a courtesy to respond. That was another time that I should've got up and get the hell out. After my eyes dilated you returned to exam room and started an extensive/prolonged examination by slit lamp with highest degree of light intensity, and instructed me to look up and down, left and right with repetitions maybe twice on each eye, which had a burning effect and was uncomfortable.

You also probe my eyes with blue light longer period of time than usual, actually shoving it into my eyes and not with normal distance, which I showed my discomfort to you. As I though it is over, you went out and came back with a magnifying mirror mounted on your forehead and intense exposure of my eyes to bright light and lengthy torture continued. I'm not sure what you were trying to find deep inside or achieve something or targeting something, but at the conclusion of all that, you didn't utter a word about your findings; healthy?, damaged? cooked? or not and I was too distraught to ask, That absolutely was your duty to tell like any other good doctor. Also, as far as I remember all the ophthalmologists would set the slit lamp to low to medium intensity, but not yours that was the highest.

According to an article published by NCIB, indeed prolonged exam by stilt lamp with highest level of intensity can damage the Retina and practitioners must be diligent in the use of that especially for older people, but not only you were not careful, you brought your big gun, shining even more light into my eyes while forcefully holding my eyelids open with your hand." My e-mail is much longer than this but this is the Yelp limit.

Dr. Pendleton told me that I would get blind in less than 10 years because of glaucoma. When I asked him to confirm what I just heard he said: "pretty much". Then I asked from the right or the left? He said: from both. I friend of mine who is also a doctor told me that some doctors use this type of technique to "break you" and then take advantage of you.

I not only did not go blind, I have been told by specialists that I do not have glaucoma - that it's more than 80% chance that I have it. Doctors also told me that no one has the right to tell you that. Actually ever since Dr. Pendleton prediction, I wake up every day anxious to see if I am already blind. Dr. Pendleton is known out there for not being a very nice person.

I employee of his told me that he tape recorded me, ever since I asked Dr. Pendleton why he had told me that I was going to get blind. Dr. Pendleton cowardly denied that he had said that. That day almost 15 years ago, when I left Dr. Pendleton's office, I could not even find my car so distressed I was. Actually when Dr. Pendleton told me that, I started giggling instead of crying. But Dr. Pendleton does not realize that tape recording goes both ways.

I met most of the staff, including Debbie the office manager, and Dr. Pendleton. The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable about their expertise w/o the ego snobbery that often comes w 'knowing it all'! I felt like I was in good hands. When you walk into Dr. Pendleton's office you see a comfortable waiting room on your left, and an optical shop on the right. Yadera was at the front desk w/ a welcoming smile. Andreas the optician has good advice on frames that fit your face.

My family's been coming here since our opthamologist came to work at this clinic several years ago. We like it a lot. It's clean and neat with various technologies for studying and treating the eyes. We also really like the optician and optical store that's there. it's nice to be able to get your glasses prescription filled right away with a great selection of eyewear (which includes the latest designs and fashionable brands at a discount, i.e. RayBan, Michael Kors, Prada, Izod, Versace, Jimmy Choo, Vera Wang, and many many more!).

Pendleton Eye Center is one of the friendliest, welcoming and most professional ophthalmology office! But the best part is that if you have an emergency after hours, (which always seem to happen after Friday at 5pm), you actually get a call back from Dr. Pendleton himself and not from a call center. That service, to me, is PRICELESS!

Back office is a mess on billing I stopped in today for second time to pick up my wife's glasses and mine Two weeks ago my wife and I stopped in to pick up our glasses but hers needed to be altered because they had the by focal lens too high. My frames were back ordered. My wife ask if she could pay then and we were told that there was no balance due.

Today when I arrived to pick them both up the lady at the counter said there was a balance due of $36.20 I told her that my wife had already paid and we she received the call today that they were ready for pickup that there was no balance due! The other lady helping me explained that she had reviewed the account and my wife's insurance had a higher deductible now and she just found that out in reviewing any balance due.

She never offered any responsibility for the mistake or offed any compensation for the solution just that I would have to pay the balance to pick up the glasses. So beware of this location The Dr here needs to have a better hand on customer service So bottom line is get it in writing on any balance due before you order your glasses or you will get charged more when you pick them up! Won't be back at this Dr or his offices!
