Services
At the Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Institute, we correct minor to severe foot and ankle deformities. Utilizing the most advanced techniques, we can reverse years of damage in a way that produces excellent results and gets you back on your feet immediately in most cases. We do such advanced repairs that using small single stitch portals produces immediate weight bearing in many instances.
Your big toe is the hardest-working toe, and every time your foot pushes off the ground, this toe supports most of your body's weight. Because the big toe is so critical to movement, any problem with it can make walking or even standing painful. A bunion is one of the most common foot problems. In addition to causing pain, a bunion changes the shape of your foot, making it harder to find shoes that fit.
Hammertoes are one of the most common foot disorders, and are produced by a muscle imbalance in the foot, which causes the end of the toe to bend down while the closer or more proximal part of the toe bends up. More often than not, the joints may stiffen permanently in this awkward position. Hammertoes can be inherited, caused by a nerve abnormality or abnormally tight hose, socks or shoes. When the crooked toes rub up against the shoes, painful corns may develop. If not treated properly, pain will persist.
While athlete's foot does find a prominent home in locker rooms, anyone can contract this pesky fungal infection, and it can be tough to get rid of once it takes hold. At Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Institute, Daniel Michaels, DPM, MS, DABFAS, has a number of tools in his treatment arsenal to help his patients in Hagerstown and Frederick, Maryland, fight back.

Dr. Michaels is AMAZING! He solved my very painful problem quickly and easily. I'd seen other doctors, but he's the only one who had a solution. A huge THANK YOU to Dr. Michaels!
