My son has been here for just about 2 years and I wouldn't have it any other way! He has grew to bond with all his teachers & they really have gone out there way to see him progress! Finally I have a peace of mind while being away from him!

In January of 2021 I suffered a sudden spinal stroke paralyzing me from the waist down. I chose Ability KC for my outpatient PT/OT. From start to finish everyone was amazing! The campus may not be new and flashy but the sparkle comes from the inside. The therapies and approach to aid in recovery are thought out and personal to each patient. The therapists and nurses helped change my life for the better. They taught me how to not only live from a wheelchair, but thrive. I would recommend Ability KC to anyone looking for the best care and rehabilitation needs.

My wife goes for therapy 5 days a week, it has truly helped her physically, emotionally and psychologically. She was paralyzed on the right side from the stroke and did not want to live. Ability KC has brought back the fighter in her. Yes they do play games occasionally(which are to help with visual and speech) but she gets physical and occupational therapy daily.

She enjoys the stroke education and other group activities. If I could give it more stars I would. I have never felt like it was a money or insurance grab. From Admitting, social workers, psychologists, therapists, nurses to techs and anyone I missed, we can't thank you enough for all you do. In the 4 weeks she has been there she is walking with a cane and is able to move her right arm!

I came to Ability KC as a stroke victim. They were recommended to me as an aggressive rehabilitation program. I enrolled on a 5 day a week approach. Initially my first week was suprising. I was scheduled for things like rest, cards, warm up. My first session of warm up was @ 15 minutes of arm stretch in a group of about 10 people, then the therapist suggested we all play a game.

After the class I explained I did not come here to play games or rest. Immediately my schedule was changed to speech. Occupational, exercise, and physical therapy. I will say the therapists were all dedicated. My problem s began after just a few weeks a case worker called and informed me they would switch me to 3 days a week. I knew it was not due to my insurance, but did not get a real explanation.i was told the change would take place on a specific date over a week away.

The next time I came in i found out I wasnt scheduled at all that day the change had taken place. I called my wife and she had to drive back in to pick me up. i soon started my three day a week schedule with physical, occupational, and exercise. Within weeks I wasinvolved in a fall at home that prevented my return for two weeks. Upon my return iI was informed I was not to re ieve the hour of excersize.

This to me was unexplainable, i was using the machines to work my legs a d i prove my core strength. I was told they had new patients and they had to make room. Now in left with driving in from north of the river 3 days a week for only two hours therapy per day. I was told last week this week was y last, i could return in 3 to 6 months to continuee.

So i came in Monday my wife came in to meet with occup4 therapist. She told us that she had been told by the case worker she had o further authorization from insurance company. We knew that was right because we had letters in hand that gave authority for therapy into November. When i left i told my wife I'm done with Ability. The therapists are great, their management is abysmal.

Ability KC is absolutely fantastic. The staff go above and beyond to be as helpful and knowledgeable about what you or your child may need. I highly recommend them ten times over.

We absolutely love the Children's Therapeutic Learning Center. Our 3 year old son started there this fall and it was everything we hoped it would be and more. He has a rare genetic disease that causes him to have seizures, learning disabilities and behavior issues. The student to teacher ratio, his consistent therapy and the level of training the teachers receive in order to best teach him has been a game changer. The progress he has made in 6 short months in remarkable. We are so happy with our decision to send our son to Ability.

My son, who has CP, first went to Ability for intensive therapy after an operation in the spring and summer of 2019. It was very thorough and was tailored just to him. Besides his therapists, there was a RN, social worker, and academic advisor available. Last summer, 2020, he participated in their transition therapy program. They worked on daily living skills.

This gave him an idea of the types of skills he needs to master to become more independent. Often, things are done for him because it is easier or faster. He had the opportunity to learn and practice new skills. The most noticeable change was in his desire and effort to do more things by himself. I am very grateful for Ability KC.

Absolutely appalling services. My niece had a lengthy stay with KC ability. After months of full time services and rude staff members I found out only before discharge how uninformed and money focused this company is. 1 week before discharge. My nieces's primary PT discouraged her from participating in her track day with her kindergarten peers and also insulted my nieces abilities by insisting she just be a helper. (FYI; My niece showed me how strong she was in every way everyday.

We raced, danced, played catch daily why hold her back). As an aunt I'm thinking these educated professionals know best so I feared for my niece to participate in her last day of track and field (FYI; kindergarten was an absolute bright spot for my girl especially after the accident; so shouldn't professionals encourage her strengths and make suggestions.?. )After 6months of therapy my question is why didn't her PT know her capabilities, my sister was paying for services.

So why weren't we getting accurate updates? My conclusion is it comes down to being money focused. This PT had no intention of letting us know any alternatives other than the insulting, "she should just be a helper". Fortunately for my niece her elementary school and support team had her not only participate but encouraged her to be a part and to play in every event with her classmates. KC Ability is focused on numbers only and is fear-based.

Don't buy in to it! As an organization for helping others I'm disappointed with KC Ability inability to have customer service and to not be client focused and truly aid in the growth for people who need the most amount of encouragement. I have so many more examples of how misinformed and appalling this business is. My suggestion is to find therapy that is client focused and question everything a therapist suggest. From casting, to scheduling services, to reporting to a social worker. You must ask and be your own representative.

Wonderful organization. Have volunteered with them several times and have observed how much of an impact they have for the people of Kansas City area. While I personally haven't received services with them, I can tell you the opportunities I've had to interact with members of their staff through volunteer events were enough to know that they have a real passion for what they do.

Ability KC is the BEST intensive rehabilitation center in KC! My son has been a patient there off and on for almost 10 years. The quality of care he has received, the knowledge of the staff, the amount of resources under one roof is unlike anything Ive ever seen. They work well with my sons doctors at Childrens Mercy-which is super helpful! He has received OT, ST, PT, as well as attended adaptive swim and multiple summer programs.

My son was 2 when he became a patient and is now almost 12, I know we will continue to be a patient for life! As he gets older I look forward to him being a part of their driving program and vocational services. I cant say enough good things about this facility & the staff! If you are looking for premium rehabilitation care Ability KC is your go to!

Ability KC is hands down the best the best thing that has happened to our family since my husband suffered 3 strokes and a GI bleed in March and April of 2019. These people are compassionate and caring. They push the limits to get patients back to where they want and need to be. I must address a couple of the negative comments here. The first one is about Ability being all about the money. NOT TRUE!

My husband goes Mon-Fri. and from the initial evaluation we knew how long he was projected to be there. He has progressed to points where he might feel as if he is ready to do something that his PT. Nate might not think is a good idea yet. We absolutely trust his testing, his education and his experiences to tell us when things should happen. Nothing would be worse than regressing with a fall.

I do not have a degree in physical therapy and rehab so I leave that up to the people I entrust with my husbands care. The other issue is regarding visiting a friend at Ability. I have spent full days with my husband there and sometimes I leave him for the day. Usually I arrive about 30 minutes before his last therapy. I exchange pleasantries with Leonard at the front desk, go to my husbands therapy board listing and then look for him.

No Leonard does not not know where my husband is. It's not his job. If Joe is listed in PT he could be outside walking, taking laps around the building, working on a mat, on the tread mill, testing, playing ping pong for balance. They are not restricted to one area. If he is listed with OT he could be in the quiet room working on cognitive puzzles, in the gym with the visual board or in the kitchen working with kitchen prep.

He also does exercize class, yoga and group. All I know is that he's not there to visit he's there for rehab. And wherever is is at Ability it will be the best care he could get anywhere. The progress and hope that I see every day is heartwarming. This is the best kept secret in KC for rehab and I highly recommend it

My review is based on their annual Baconfest. This is a great event that brings in funds for the Rehab Institution and a fun time! You get to try various tasting from different businesses and local area restaurants and there is a good of variety of beer to appease all tastes. The best part, all of this is included with you admission price, along with a cup to enjoy your beer and a t shirt so you can show off your bacon love to your friends.

Outside of walking around tasting and drinking, there are various contests. Best bacon t shirt, bacon eating contest, best bacon recipe and raffles to win some awesome prizes. Why not a 5 star review? Trashcans and some seating! Thankfully Yelp CM Matt was out there to provide some relief with the seating, but for the huge crowd, more is needed. (Or remember to bring a chair!) The large area of grass and shade was nice, but there is only so much room for people and not really good for grabbing a few tastings, sitting and enjoying, moving to the next few, etc.

I think there were only four trashcans at the entire event. Maybe five counting by the porta potties. This becomes an issue as you are carrying multiple vessels of food items, usually empty, but sometimes with all, but one bite. This was a really fun event and I look forward to future Baconfests.
