Patients choose Alta Bates IVF for different reasons. For many it's because we get great results, with live birth rates of 54% for youngest women using their own eggs and over 65% for women of all ages using donor eggs. For others it's the close patient-doctor relationship which lies at the heart of our program. Unlike most fertility clinics, where, on any given day, egg retrievals and embryo transfers are performed by the physician on call, at Alta Bates IVF your own doctor performs all the procedures throughout your entire treatment cycle assuring maximal continuity of care.

Assisted reproduction is a complex process, which requires a well-coordinated team to attain the best results. In the course of your evaluation and treatment you will have an opportunity to get to know each one of us on a personal basis. We welcome your questions and will do our best to solve any problems that may arise.
We maintain an open-door policy that welcomes patients from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. We are mindful, non-judgmental and we work hard to balance the interests of all the parties involved: the intended parents, their future children, egg donors and surrogates. We believe that successful patient-doctor relationships are based on mutual trust and that authenticity matters. We do not limit your pursuit of a family on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or a low likelihood of success.
Richard Chetkowski founded the Alta Bates IVF Program in 1984. He received his MD degree from UCSF, then completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Yale and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UCLA. Dr. Chetkowski is board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) as well as obstetrics and gynecology.
Perhaps the only advantage of infertility is that it gives you a chance to better plan for a healthy conception, pregnancy and delivery. Following is some general information which you may want to keep in mind regardless of how you conceive. Adequate intake of folic acid decreases the likelihood of severe nervous system deformities in the offspring.

My husband and I reached out to Dr Chetkowski for a second opinion after having tried 2 other clinics over the course of 8 years for our secondary infertility (2 clomid rounds and 3 failed FETs). After our first consultation we knew he was our best chance - With his years of knowledge and research in the field of IVF and his case by case treatment plans we were in safe hands. And I can happily say that we would not have our beautiful healthy daughter I conceived and carried to full term if not for Dr Chetkowski and the Alta Bates staff.
