I have gone to Shanks's Family Eyecare for almost twenty years, and Dr Shanks has always given me good advice. They also have a large selection of framesand make sure the frames fit correctly for a long as you have them.

The office is nice, the staff and doctor are very friendly and Dr. Shanks seems to be very experienced. I'm not giving 5 stars though because they didn't seem to listen very well. When I said I was actually more interested in glasses than contact lenses they ignored this by talking me into a contact lens exam and charging me 280% the normal price for some new contact lenses.

More importantly however, after a very quick eye exam, my new lenses actually seem a little too weak. Also the glaucoma test was stressful because the OA was having difficulty with the tonometer.

Wonderful people, always, eager to help. Dr. Shanks is fabulous at what he does and Brandon goes over and above. It is great to have people who under promise and over deliever.

I am a longtime patient of Dr. Shanks as were my children when they were young. Dr. Shanks is very kind, a really sweet compassionate Doctor. He takes his time in explaining things to you thoroughly. I can't speak higher of Dr. Shanks or his employees, they are all wonderful. His wife is the receptionist and she is nice. His son, Brandon makes the glasses and will come out and answer any question you have.

There is another lady that works there that has gorgeous long red hair, I forgot her name but, I adore her! There will never be another eye care facility that I would go to. They are that exceptional. I will be making an eye appointment for next week & dare I say that I'm looking forward to it. Just to be around some really nice, caring, compassionate people.

I dont leave alot of reviews. But I had to for this Doctors office! The Dr. Was very nice, helpful, and educated. The office staff were very nice. I got contacts and glasses. This was my first time wearing contacts, and the lady who worked with me was very patient and and answered all my questions. Then for the frames I also had a very friendly lady help me find just the right pair. 5 stars!

I was in the Nashville area on vacation about a month ago and stopped by this place because I had forgotten my contacts. I was expecting to just buy a couple of boxes and live with it but they very generously gave me weekly trial contacts at no charge. Everyone in there was so kind and they displayed Southern Hospitality as best as an eyewear store possibly could

I have gone to Shanks Family Eye Care for over twenty years. Dr. Shanks is absolutely amazing. He is very kind and will go out of his way to work with you. His son, Brandon works in house on the glasses. His wife works at the reception desk. I wish I could remember the lady's name with the long, red hair because I just love her! They are all very nice and will take great care of you! I trust my entire family to them and recommend them to everyone!

Very pleased with how Dr Shanks took care of me. I've been a patient for years for annual exams, but this week I was in pain from an eye infection. Dr Shanks worked me in and made sure that I got immediate treatment. I felt like my infection was given his highest priority. I would recommend him to anyone.

Omg took my 9 year old here first time ever for her and the staff was awful and rude Dr Shank very professional and so sweet to my daughter she really liked him! As far as Dr Shank he needs to get rid of the young rude employees he is great though.

I scheduled a first appointment with Shanks Family Eye Care over the phone. I took special care to try and find out if the eye exam appointment would cost me anything. It turns out that the eye appointment doesn't cost anything, but it is common to have a $72 fitting fee- not covered by insurance- that was not mentioned to me. The woman who handles insurance was unwilling to take any responsibility for the misunderstanding.

I was asked to come a few minutes before my appointment and I showed up 10 minutes early. Fifteen minutes after the start of my appointment I went to the front desk and asked how much longer it would be. They said they had an urgent appointment walk-in, and that it's going to take longer than expected. No one told me when I came in that there was an urgent appointment and that my appointment was going to be bumped back.

When I told him that I needed to leave by a certain time to make it to work, I was told that I should probably just reschedule my appointment then. I took time off of work and had lost income to make this appointment, and told her I couldn't reschedule to do that all over again. I'm the one holding the bill in this situation, and the whole experience was unpleasant, except for the doctor was nice.

Have been going to this eye doctor for as long as I can remember. Dr. Shanks is a good doctor and a good person. His office staff however is another story. They're usually rude, don't greet ya, and don't help you when you walk in. I also recently had an experience when trying to make an appointment for some contact lens. I spoke with 2 different office assistants on the phone and they couldn't help me with what I was looking for and were obviously super uneducated. Told me that it was against the law for Dr. shanks to see me for a contact lens exam without having a yearly exam also done."against the law" LOL; wonder when this law was passed. Anywho so the last thing I requested was just that she have Dr. shanks call me back, which he never did, and judging by her attitude I doubt she ever passed along the message. His office staff makes his practice look terrible; should invest in some new employees.

I needed a new optometrist because I moved and I picked Shanks family eyecare because of their great reviews. I was not disappointed! Everyone on staff was friendly and professional. I did not have to wait more than 5 minutes, if that. Another reason I chose them was because they have the machine that takes pictures of your eyes instead of having to dilate them. Dr. Shanks was professional, clearly knew his stuff, and was warm and personable. Pam, who fitted me for my glasses, was a hoot to talk with. I've found my eye care home!

My husband and I have gone to Dr Shanks for years now. It's really cool to walk in a place where they automatically know your name! It's kind of like visiting family. They stand behind their products and are very knowledgeable and helpful. They truly care about their patients and customers.

Dr. Shanks and his staff are very kind, welcoming and ready to help you to better vision! In a world where small businesses are rare, it's nice to go where you know they are looking out for you and not to get money out of you. Great eye doctor and amazing staff!

We've gone to Shanks Family eye care for years and have always received excellent service. They're a great group of people always friendly. Dr. Shanks is very thorough and knowledgeable.

My visit with Shanks Family Eye care left me totally satisfied. Dr Shanks and his staff were friendly and did everything possible to make me feel comfortable and appreciated as a customer. The eye exam itself was the most pleasant I've ever had; and the doctor explained what he was doing and what he found each step of the way. I would absolutely recommend this office to anyone.

I've gone to Dr. Shanks for as long as I've been in Nashville. It's always a friendly environment and I feel well taken care of. I will continue going there as long as I'm in Nashville.

What a great find: a small, local, family practice in Nashville! Yearly appointments are quick and painless, and their prices are pretty fair. It may not have the bells-and-whistles of some more "advanced" optometrist offices, but this place more than makes up for it in quality.

Dr. Fred Shanks and his staff are excellent in all respects. He and his friendly and helpful staff make one feel welcome and in good care. My wife and I have been patients for many years and have no plans to change. I would recommend Dr. Shanks to anyone.

Dr Shanks is very thorough and experienced. I have been going to an eye doctors that rushed you in and out and treated you like a number. Dr Shanks is personable and friendly. I have only been here twice but both times I haven't had to wait.

I highly recommend Shanks Family optical. I was able to get in the same day, which I know is not always possible. The office was nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr Shanks was very professional and thorough and I was in my new contacts in no time. They even had a few specials going on and I was able to save a few bucks. I'll definitely be back and will recommend them to anyone who needs a new eye care professional. Thanks, I'll be back!

My family has been seeing Dr. Shanks for many years. He and his office staff are very friendly and helpful. They are knowledgeable and quite competent. Several of his family members work for him and there is a very good office atmosphere. Definitely recommend!
