I am so disappointed with Dr. Shapiro and Wake Forest Baptist Health. I had my surgery over 12 years ago and have been very happy. Last year my eyes started to get fuzzy so I called them this year for an enhancement since there was a LIFETIME GUARANTEE. The Wake Forest office that he sold his business to doesn't even want to take care of his existing patients.

The nurse called me and left a VOICEMAIL recommending me to go to TLC! I understand he is retiring but he could have worked a deal when he sold out to Wake Forest to grandfather existing patients. I am sure Wake Forest has my patient records from the purchase of his practice. Shame on you Dr. Shapiro for offering a lifetime guarantee and leaving your patients to find care elsewhere and shame on you Wake Forest Baptist Health for not grandfathering existing patients and sending them to a completely different practice!

You bought his practice and the patients are a part of that. This just wreaks of pure greed and indifference to patients. I have heard lots of patients, like me, that are so upset and in the same situation.

I made an appointment for my Mother and I. I do not have insurance to pay for Eye exam, so I was prepared to pay for the exam, whereas my Mother has Medicare that will pay for her exam. The gal I spoke with wanted to know if I had health insurance. I advised her that I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was insistant that I bring in my insurance card.

I did not feel comfortable, so I canceled my appointment. My Mother was planning on getting a pair of glasses if she saw something she liked, and she wanted her prescription. They told her if she wanted glasses or prescription she would have to pay an additional $45. She looked and did not see anything, so we left. I was stunned that they would charge an additional fee. I called My Eye Dr. in Maison, NC. Made us an appointment. They do not charge extra fees.

I am satisfied with the surgery he did 3 years ago. I see great! However, he tells you to come back every year there for your eye exam and your surgery will have a warranty. I went today. Paid upfront the $115. At the end of my apointment the Dr informs me he no longer does the surgery and there is no guarantee anymore. I get that he is retiring but they should have told me before I paid the $115 for today's exam. I only went for the guarantee.

Just wanted my time and money. I was only going to Shapiro due the warranty with the lasik eye procedure. Now they don't have it, I wasnt informed until after my visit that they no longer honor the warranty. So I drove an hour for nothing and could have gotten a regular exam somewhere that cheaper.

REVIEWS Susan Mcclanahan - 1 starDr. Shapiro informed me that I had Cataracts that needed to be removed. His staff member showed me the kind of lenses that I would need and talked me into getting Restor lenses. These were not covered by insurance but she said "these are what would be best for your vision at all distances." The cost was approx $6,000.

I had both eyes done and from the beginning, the lenses didnt work at all. Halos and lines of light were what I saw all of the time. I went back to Dr. Shapiro and told him they were not working at all. After three months, he finally agreed to put standard lenses in. He said I would have to pay the anesthesiologist and I said I really can't. I have already paid thousands for lenses that were worthless as well as the surgical center and anesthesiologist.

He said "well, we just won't have one." So for the next two surgeries, we didn't. After a few weeks with the standard lenses, my eyes felt irritated. I decided to go to another ophthalmologist for an exam. He examined my eyes and told me thate was sorry to tell me this but the lenses were in the wrong part of my eyes. I asked BOTH? He said that they were.

He said that was why my eyes were feeling irritated. He referred me to a specialist at Wake Forest Eye Center at Baptist Hospital. An ultrasound of both eyes confirmed what Dr. G had told me. The lenses were in the wrong place in my eyes. So, Dr. D. put new lenses in both eyes. I asked Dr. Shapiro for a refund for the lenses that were so expensive but he refused to even consider it.

I feel like he was heartless, greedy, and didn't care at all about the harm that he did to me. The money and the emotional toll that this took was not necessary. How would he like someone doing that to his child or family member? Like Comment 5 minutes ago 3 Reviews

Mr Shapiro did Lasik oh my eyes 10 years ago and they're still working so well. It's so nice to be able to see without contacts or glasses. He did an awesome job and I couldn't have asked for better service. Thank you!

Just the WORST eye doctor ever! Left me blind in one eye. Do NOT let him do any type of surgery on you. Needs to retire. I would not let him work on a goat! Pitiful. My other issue is no one will sue this fool because he has been around so long! Beware - he is terrible and is a lousy surgeon.

This is a GREAT place for LASIK! I was able to see right away and my vision is getting better and better everyday. The Dr. and his technicians know exactly what they are doing, so you can rest easy. I have recommended him to several friends, and one of my coworkers actually recommended him to me. I can't say enough how thankful I am to be able to see w/o glasses or contacts anymore! It's FREEDOM!

My family members have all been patients here. I scheduled an appointment on June 30 because I suspected my son had an eye infection and I wanted him seen. Was called twice on the morning of our appointment (Friday, July 1) and told that I HAD to bring my son in an hour and 15 minutes earlier for an appointment because the office had decided to close.

No explanation for why they had to close, but was told that they were not going to pay the office staff to wait for my son's appointment. The appointment time was for 11:00 a.m. and we could not get there earlier. We will not go back to this practice. The lack of regard and professionalism is unbelievable.
