When Dr. Loren Wilkins founded his optometry practice on Douglas Avenue in 1937, his vision and dedication to the care of his patients was his utmost priority. Eye care has changed since that time, and Dr. Wilkins's practice has evolved into what is now West Wichita Family Optometrists. Although we have grown into one of the largest practices in Kansas through referrals from family and friends, our vision remains the same. More than 75 years later, we use state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, yet we remain committed to the standard of excellence established so long ago.

West Wichita Family Optometrists began in 1937 with Dr. Loren Wilkins on Douglas Avenue. Much has changed since that time but our commitment to quality eye care hasn't. Caring about our patients has always been priority one. Because of this dedication, we have become one of the largest practices in Kansas, growing through the referrals of family and friends.
As Doctors of Optometry, we are able to examine the eye for routine purposes, diagnose and treat eye diseases, assess health risks based on the appearance of the eyes and advise patients on how health problems can effect the eyes and vision. Most commonly nearsightedness or farsightedness are diagnosed and these are easily remedied with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery.
Our Optical is state-of-the-art and has a remarkable selection of the latest styles in eye wear, including designers such as Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller, and Vera Wang. Visit us to browse and try on. Our staff will help you choose the best looking frame and will evaluate your lifestyle and prescription to assure your lenses suit you perfectly.
As a parent, you may wonder whether your pre-schooler has a vision problem or when a first eye exam should be scheduled. Eye exams for children are extremely important. Experts say 5% to 10% of pre-schoolers and 25% of school-aged children have vision problems. Early identification of a child's vision problem is crucial because, if left untreated, some childhood vision problems can cause permanent vision loss. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age.

Dr. Emrick always takes the extra time to discuss any concerns we may have, and explain the diagnostic process and expectations for our family. He makes sure all of our questions are answered and that we are educated on insurance and prescriptions before we leave. His extra time and consideration for our eye health is notable and appreciated!

Dr. Eric, was just awesome. He treated me and talked to me like I was a person with knowledge. He gave me so much respect. The whole office was just wonderful. Highly impressed. It was small enough to be personal & had enough technology to be top of the line. Everyone, was just wonderful. So very nice. I will recommend them to others.

Took my 10 year old child in for a yearly exam, was her first time in this office. She was spoken to appropriately and felt relaxed and comfortable! The doctors here are great with adults but also so wonderful with children. Very informative and explain their actions very thoroughly enough for a child to understand and also parent!

I've been going to West Wichita Optometry for the past 3 years. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Dr. Lamp is very through, very attentive and knowledgeable. I called with eye problem on a Friday and was seen by Dr. Becker the same afternoon. She was very nice and solved my eye problem within minutes. Keep up the good work! Will keep going back.

We have been going to this optometry office for 30+ years. We have always received excellent care from the providers at this office! We loved Dr. Herndon and were sad when he took a well deserved retirement. Then Dr. Simone assumed my care and he has done a great job of managing my advanced age eye care. Thank you Dr. Simon!

I've come to West Wichita Family Optometrists since I was a kid and still choose to keep coming as an adult bc of their great service. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, professional and helpful which is hard to find these days. They're usually always on time for my appointments. And I love Dr. Lamp! He's a fantastic human being and doctor that spends time with his patients. He's holistic in offering natural ways to improve problems like dry eye and be preventative for healthy aging eyes! Great care here!

Dr. Becker is very through. She takes the time to ask good questions about vision issues. The technician that helped me with my new glasses was the best I have had at this office. I am very pleased with my exam and choice of glasses. I have been going to this office for many years. I highly recommend Dr. Becker and this office.

This was my first visit after just moving to Wichita. Your office was highly recommended and it was in my network so I was excited to be able to come. Honestly I was very impressed from the moment that I entered the doors. I was met with the utmost courtesy, respect and kindness. Dr Emily was so informational about my concerns about my eye condition.

And she taking the time to explain everything in detail. Upon leaving the office I felt very satisfied and reassured that the health of my eye condition was fully addressed in every manner. From the exam to checking out. With this being my first time visiting your office I was very impressed and will recommend it to others. Thank you for the experience of excellent care.

Dr. Emrick was great. I saw Dr. Becker before and she was fantastic as well. The whole staff were very friendly. The girl that helped me order glasses went above and beyond to get me set up with my new eyeglass order. She even adjusted my previous pair of glasses that I didn't purchase there. She also put new nose pads on them. I've always had a good experience at this office.

Absolutely the worst customer service. Going to this optometrist is a lot like going to some truck stop for slop at 3am. Poor customer service, drive thru type treatment. Honestly the worst and when you ask questions they can't even answer them because they have rent a doctors not even staffed optometrist. Save yourself the time, money, and energy. go to a real eye doctor. Don't let the flexible hours draw you in it's not worth their attitude or poor service. The unprofessionalism is astounding.
