I can't say enough good things about the PT team at SMOC. They were personable and professional, pushing me when needed and easing up on me when I was having a bad day with my injury. I looked forward to my day there and working on getting back to normal. My mobility has much improved and I have all of the tools to continue my recovery.

Unfortunately I gave one star because there wasn't anything lower. The very first thing their website says is living with pain isn't living. I thought to myself, "Finally someone who gets it!" and made an appointment to hopefully alleviate some of this debilitating chronic pain. I drove an hour for a 10:00 a.m. appointment and waited to be seen by a physician's assistant finally at about 11:30 who claimed my ligament was fine by looking at an x-ray, and told me I had arthritis and to take turmeric pills.

I spoke with him for about a total of 7 to 10 minutes. I had a failed ACL repair years ago and dislocated my knee several times in the last few months. The appointment I eagerly anticipated was yesterday and I woke up with so much pain this morning I couldn't even walk to the kitchen to get my coffee. I'm certainly not going to take turmeric pills and I'm never going back to this office again.

I began my pt with SMOC Chesapeake in March 2022 and I was very doubtful because of my previous pt sessions with various pt organizations and I've been dealing with this chronic lower back pain for 20+ years. Honestly, this is the most progress I've ever made, as far as pain relief, pain decrease, and fewer flare-ups. Thank you all SMOC Chesapeake.

I have been PT ing with Brandy for several weeks and she is great. She talks to me when the pain of a stretch is a little much, never tires of my old man stories, is makes me look forward to my sessions. Keep up the great work! BZ

The whole PT team is great! Dallas signs me in immediately. Brandi, Coleman, and Amy have all been helping me on my journey to increase mobility and strength and to avoid surgery. Gigi is helping me with my exercises. They listen and help to make sure I understand what to do. They do it all with smiling eyes! Thank you!

This is my 2nd round of PT at SMOC.both times for my neck. The staff is very friendly and caring. As you go through your specific exercises and stretches they consistently check to make sure you are OK and that the stretch or exercise is not causing further pain. I would highly recommend them for your physical therapy needs! Coleman, Brandy, Riza, and Gigi are an amazing team!

Dr. Goss is so great. He listens to me and acknowledges my struggles with my back pain and issues diagnostics and treatments to help. I went to Atlantic Orthopaedic in 2020 and I was treated so rudely and my pain was just shrugged off; I was even told, "I don't even know why you're here, " by the doctor I was seeing. Dr. Goss is the complete opposite and wants to see me get better.

I appreciate him and his efforts so much! Heather Beasley is also great with making sure my worker's comp company gets everything they need and is willing to help get my worker's comp to actually approve my diagnostics and treatments. I'm so happy I was sent here.

Horrible! If you are able to be seen, it only gets worse from there. My first was a year ago and the Doctor recommended I have a procedure and the nurse would call and set up everything. The nurse never contacted me and I called and called and let voice mail after voice mail and nothing. I had appt this morning to see a different Doctor and never made it. The long lines you must STAND in took care of that and the paperwork takes a good 20 -30mins fill out. I have never had such poor so called care from any Doctor's office!

When I finally got an appointment with them after calling I see that the front desk people are crazy busy. I joked with one of the girls about being busy and they did not take it well. They all joined in and said they're overwhelmed with everything and their team lead used to help them out but according to them all she does is run around the office talking to people and pretend to be busy.

She's supposed to be training new employees too but the girl I had was new and she had to ask the girl next to her for help a ton of times. She said that during her training the team lead was only on her phone and not helping her! You all obviously need a new team lead. Shame on you as a company treating your employees like that. Obviously you all need to give your team lead a readjustment, its not right to segment them like that.

Incredible facility, great doctor. Good luck getting them on the phone for any reason. At least 30 times In the last 2 months I've tried and still not talked to anyone. Even the "answering service " rarely answers, and if they do they can't help, just promise a call back that never happens. Frustrating.

Worst experience I have ever had dealing with a doctors office. My mother had neck surgery 2 months ago performed by Dr. Goss. Since then she has been battling an infection off and on. At one point there were white gobs of what looked like wet dough coming out of her incision. Never seen anything like it. We have been told repeatedly that "Neck surgeries DON'T infect.

In 15 years, only one patient has had an infection" We spent 7 hrs in the ER at Riverside yesterday due to severe pain in her neck and shoulders. The ER doc wanted to tranfer her by ambulance to Chesapeake General. He said she has an infection in her neck after a MRI and blood work were performed. Another doc at SMOC and Dr Goss made the decision to NOT do this.

She was sent home with no meds under the idea she was to call and come to the office in the morning and antibiotics would mess up a culture. After repeated calls and only getting the answering service, which do nothing, I got finally got them to agree to let me bring her in. She saw Dr Goss' PA, Winkler. He was very arrogant and rude. He repeated that "in 15 years only one person has had an infection from neck surgery".

They took x-rays, which, to my knowledge, can't detect infections. Never referred to the MRI taken the night before. He merely glanced at the incision site which is/has been healed and told her that it was in her head that it hurt. Her brain had convinced her muscles they hurt. Said he didnt want a culture cause that would involve opening it back up and neck surgeries dont infect.

Her white blood cells nearly doubling in 8 days (sign of infection) was because of the surgery 2 months prior according to him. He also stated that "due to her age (61) and medical history this is expected" "Dont worry, by Friday you should be back to the land of the living" He put her on 3 meds for the infection he still insisted she DOESN'T have.

He was irrated and bothered when I was asking questions. Best part, he was asked to send the scripts to Hampton to be filled. He sent only 1 and the other 2 went to a Chesapeake location. The only reason it was known the other 2 were sent at all was because the Walgreens app notified us the were filled. After 2 hours, of trying to get ahold of someone to fix this, I had to drive back to Chesapeake from Hampton to pick them up WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PRACTICE AGAIN!

Had an appointment at SMOC and saw Dr. Bernstein. She saw the MRI and told me I was a prime candidate for a knee replacement, but they did not want to do anything until I was in my 60's. WHAT? So I would need to wait 10-15 years before I can get my knee fixed. She set me up with PT and wanted to see me 6 weeks later. On week 5, the PT place called and wanted to schedule PT.

I said I had an appointment with my doctor the next week and I would let them know. I went back and saw Dr. Bernstein and told her I could no wait 10-15 years. She said that she never said that, but I still needed to get my knee fixed. I squated and my knee popped, she said that was a muscle. My doctor said it was bone on bone and a physical therapist said that it was bone on bone.

So she scheduled me with Dr. Wright, so I had to wait another 6 weeks for the appointment. She actually told the office staff that I needed a surgical consult. I went to the appointment, paid my co-pay and sat down. 15 minutes went by and a nurse came out to tell me Dr. Wright had a family emergency and I needed to be rescheduled. Not a problem, I totally understand.

They wrote my information on a piece of paper. Should have been a red flag. Why not put it into the computer. But another staff member said, just do like we did yesterday, so it was written on a piece of paper. So they knew the day before and did not call to explain the situation. Butnthey did not and i wasted an hour of my time. I was told I would get a call by Tuesday the next week. Tuesday came and went without a call.

Two weeks went by and I called. I was told that he was not back yet. A total of a month goes by and I call. I was told I would have to wait ANOTHER 6 weeks before I could get an appointment. I am going to go down and get my records and the co-pay and never step foot in that HORSE and PONY SHOW. I shouldn't have to wait a total of two and a half months. Other patients should have been moved to accommodate the ones that needed to be rescheduled. I would not refer anyone to that place.

Absolutely, hands down, the worst patient services in all of the Tidewater. I've been on the phone now for over an hour just trying to pay a bill. No one answers any of the phone lines at 3pm, the billing extension is out of service, and finally, after a 16 minute hold I was transferred to an answering service that put me back on hold for another 10 minutes just so I could leave a message. DONT BOTHER WITH SMOC! THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS PLAN WHEN IT COMES TO CISTOMER SERVICE. HORRIBLE PHONE SYSTEM AND ANSWERING SERVICE. I GUESS THEY JUST DONT WANT TO GET PAID. SCREW ' EM.

I am six weeks out from a hip replacement surgery. After years of pain that slowly eroded my quality of life, I have been given my life back! I returned home after one night in the hospital and needed no opiate pain meds after the first night. Dr. Wright is an excellent surgeon, he is personable and easy to speak to. I can't thank him enough for amazing work he did with me.

My husband saw Dr. Goss and the experience was terrible. He has zero bedside manners. If you are over weight don't bother going. If you are in pain management don't bother going. You will certainly be judged and your condition won't be taken seriously. I'm saddened that we couldn't find an alternative to pain medication. The whole goal of addressing this was to find a solution for my husband to get off his pain medication and improve his quality of life.

The administrative staff were kind and courteous to us. The facility itself is impressive and very welcoming. The doctor we saw however was judgmental and arrogant and is the reason why we will never go back.

This place is amazing! It's very clean and gives a very relaxed feeling which is great if you're in pain and stressed out. Dr. Guinand has been incredible! I honestly wish all doctors I went to were just like him. I only had a problem with the PT area which was just a mess with scheduling and sometimes the therapists only payed a little attention to me because they were sometimes double booked and the huge open area with other people around made me so tender the exercises hardly worked. Still, the staff was so amazing and even though I have a herniated disk, I was blessed to find SMOC.

Spend thousands of dollars here and the PA had no interest in pinpointing the cause of my lower back pain, all they wanted to do was injections and then more injections. I personally feel they are not concerned with the actual welfare of the patient, only concerned with treating pain, not the root cause of it. very disappointed

I had surgery here in December 2011 for a herniated disc. The doctor had no bedside manner and was difficult to deal with as he would get really short and irritable if you ask any questions. Then when I went for a follow-up to the surgery I was told it would be covered under my surgery cost only to get billed for it a year later. I tried to call the billing department they only transferred me from call to call saying it wasn't their problem and proceeded to lecture me and give me an attitude. Do not use this company unless you want a major headache.
