Horrible diagnostics here. Went in with all kinds of ear symptoms from wetness, itchiness, pain, and hearing loss. I've seen them twice over the six months I've been dealing with this. Because my ear looked dry the morning I went in the doctor told me to put drops of oil in my ear. I did a hearing test that showed hearing loss in the impacted ear but apparently that's not a symptom without a baseline test.
Wouldn't take my word for it that I used to hear a lot better out of that ear, really recently. Refused to consider symptoms they couldnt observe. Refused to try to find the root of the problem. Symptoms scream ear or sinus infection and they treated me for dry ear. Complete waste of time and money. Hoping my hearing loss isn't permanent with the time wasted seeing these doctors.

I have to redo my review, for this office. I don't know, if it was stress. From my wife needing this kind of procedure. Or, my own mind, being in a bad place. I completely missed, that this office is a Providence facility. Maybe, it's because the staff was actually nice, I didn't connect the two! I personally have over 20 years, of harsh feelings towards Providence hospitals.
No joke, 24 years ago, my wife had a heart murmur. The doctor that was in ICU, had a mouth on him! I will never forget what he said, and it still irritates me today! I walked into ICU, and heard. " I bet you got more sleep then I did". I was working graveyard at the time, so. Not only was he wrong, but the idea! That I would be at home, asleep! While my wife and unborn child, we're in ICU!
I won't tell you what I said to that little man. He didn't report me and I probably could get in trouble. I have a nasty review of Providence St Vincent, that I still get likes on, and one for Willamette Falls. Providence Milwaukee has been the nicest so far, but still dropped the ball! Providence has always been great, about caring for my wife. They always seem to forget, she's not the only one going through it.
I've said all that to end with. Dr Varela is one of the good ones. If I'm giving his Providence office four stars, it means a great deal. I have asked my wife to use OHSU, by my review. You can guess what she said. Thank you Dr Varela!

I always get amazing care here. When I moved back to Oregon last spring, my allergies came back full force. Dr. Nguyen always makes me feel really comfortable, heard, and gives me the knowledge I need to address my allergy symptoms. Thanks to her work, I've been able to greatly reduce sinus symptoms for allergies as well as getting my asthma under control.

I have a lot of empathy for COVID and its impact on care, but 3 MONTHS for an appointment is ghastly. Meanwhile, my ENT at OHSU can get me in a week out. Im trying to seek a second opinion, im in a ton of pain and the idea I can just stew with this for that amount of time is dangerous. I suppose my salivary gland tumor will just have to hang tight I dont like leaving negative feedback, but that wait time is wild, especially considering tele-visits are an option!

I have had 4 surgeries with Dr Varela over the past 5 years. He is the best! All of the surgeries have gone great. And with the follow-up appointments he always takes the extra time to stay in touch with how your personal life and things are going as well. Great guy, it really feels like he is a friend! I would recommend Northwest ENT to anyone having ear nose or throat issues!

This review is for Dr. Susan Nguyen and her medical assistant, Jeff. I can't say enough about how well they've treated me, both as a patient and a human being. Without going into details, I'll say I was referred to Dr. Nguyen because of a chronic condition. Dr. Nguyen didn't just treat what was happening, she dug into my history and discovered the root cause of my issue.
Rather than treating the current symptom she was able to address the root cause and now I no longer have this condition. Dr. N and Jeff are both friendly, kind, professional and expert. I completely trust them to treat me and highly recommended them to anyone who needs their services. Thank you Dr. N and Jeff, you make a great team and I'm grateful for your care.

I had an appointment with the PA because I had an ear infection that I had went to a walk in for a week or so beforehand, and the antibiotic drops I was prescribed didn't treat it. They did a hearing test, and the PA told me that the results were confusing, and not consistent with an ear infection. That she didn't know what to do, and she would call me in a few hours after talking with the attending.
Mind you this infection had me feeling horrible. The hearing test was painful, and I had horrible ringing/metallic sounds to everything for over a week at this point, so I was laying down because I had to work a night shift that evening (I'm a critical care nurse). My balance was off, and my head hurt so bad all the time. She calls me, and tells me that she is going to prescribe steroids, and hopes it will help, but isnt sure.
I asked what the reasoning was for the prescription, and if she thought my hearing problems might be permanent. She said wasnt sure. We ended the call and I slept a little before work. The next day I though about everything that had happened and decided i didn't feel great about the way everything had gone. I'm in my 30s with no other medical issues, and was totally freaked out at the prospect of irriversable hearing loss.
I called back and asked to speak with the doctor regarding my test results and treatment. I was told that I could only speak with the medical assistant, and that they would call me back. I insisted that my questions weren't ones and MA could.anwser. It didn't matter. When the MA did call me back, I was told they didn't know the answers, and that the only way I could speak with the doctor would be to make another appointment (pay another co pay and wait longer when this was a time sensitive issue; sorry no way) I lost confidence in this office's ability to help me at this point.
I decided to make an appointment with another doctor. At the second doctors appointment, I contacted this office to forward my hearing test results. During my appointment, after receiving the results, and repeating my hearing test, the new doctor I saw said he is fairly confident the results sent were not mine, but were mislabeled! he said the test had my name and history and physical but said I was in my 60s, and had also another lady's name on another portion of the test.
It was at this point, that I became really angry. I'm not even sure they were treating me based on results to my test. I reported all of this to my insurance company, and on principle refused to pay them for the visit. This was all in May, and they just put me up for collections! When they violated HIPPA and did me soooooo wrong through this whole ordeal.
They are lucky I didn't report them. The moral of all of this is. as a healthcare professional I can tell you that this practice does not treat patients with respect, and allow them to be a part of their healthcare treatment and decisions, and they are careless with your medical information. Please go elsewhere, and dont support this type of behavior, because it's all that is wrong with healthcare.

Dr Varela and his Staff were extremely polite, it's the kind of customer service and professionalism we would expect in any special clinic. Our son has had his ear tubes for about 8 years now since Dr Varela first put them in, now removing one since it hadn't fallen off itself. Thanks to these Ear Tubes and Dr Varella's recommendation, his constant ear infections went completely away!

Stay Away! About Clinic; First time I went there to check in, the lady at the desk ( Heidi) forgot to return my ID and insurance card, so I had to go BACK to the clinic the next day just to pick it up. Then they sent me to legacy for a sleep study saying it would be covered, then the day of the study legacy told me it would be $3,800 out of pocket.
When I called the clinic back, they said it wasn't their job to pay attention to these things and told me to figure out what was covered instead of checking my card details that theyd scanned when I checked in. They then said they would call back in a couple days to reschedule a clinic visit with a plan to do a home study. TWO WEEKS LATER I called them because they had never called back.
They lady who answered ( Heidi again) said she "just got the confirmation " three days beforehand but still didn't get back to me. This clinic is only focused on making money and all mistakes are the patients' fault, not theirs. If you want a place that cares about your health, stay away from here! About Doctor; I went there for sleep problems and swollen lymph nodes and voice problems and the doctor just scoped me without a clear explanation beforehand and on top of that he was just speaking very fast with lots of medical terms, when I said that I did not understand he just said these are latin medical words?!?
He was in a hurry and did not even make me feel like I could ask some questions, he did not even let me discuss my problems, just prescribed me omeprazole and I have been using it for almost 3 months- nothing changed. It felt like His goal is just to rush through as many visits as he can.

If you are stuck having to get allergy shots and you despise needles, Jeff is your man! He is kind, attentive and gentle. He truly cares about the patients. His outstanding skill and gentle nature makes getting the injections almost painless and the overall experience a wonderful one. I would highly recommend having all of your allergy needs taken care of at this facility. The entire staff is outstanding and Dr. Nguyen is a truly gifted doctor. You cannot go wrong having your healthcare needs taken care of by this group of professionals.

Medical issues can be very scary. In my case, I'd gone to the ER because of neck swelling, and it turned out to be complex issue that required surgery. The ER team had me follow up with Dr. Nguyen (pronounced 'win') after my ER evaluation. As a result, I recently had neck surgery which Dr. Nguyen performed, and I'm so glad she's my doctor.
She looked through historic records and showed me what had been going on in my neck so I understood the treatment plan. At times I was in tears because I didn't know if the cyst was going to show malignancy; fortunately it did not. She was calming and kind, answering all my questions and then some. I had such a great experience with her. Why? *Dr. Nguyen is kind, patient, knowledgeable, and empathetic. *She and her team are very organized, and my appointments have all been on time. * Even if she has difficult news to share, she is still genuine and compassionate. *She informed me of risks and let me know honestly when some pain might be involved. Jeff, her medical assistant, is truly a gem.
Every time I interact with him he's extremely pleasant and compassionate, and helpful as anyone could be. No worries about getting information I need, he's got a copy ready for me. His manner is also calm and kind, and I can imagine his patients adore him; he's that kind of person. If you need an ENT, I definitely recommend Dr. Nguyen and Jeff, too; they made a difficult situation manageable with as little worry and pain as possible.

I've been seeing Dr. Varela for roughly 8 years now. I've had sinus surgery by him, regular ear wax removal, sinus scopes and allergy treatments over this period. I have found him to be an extremely good communicator, explaining all the details of an issue or treatment. I have never felt that he feels rushed during my visits.

This is a great team of awesome people. Typically people that come into this clinic are irritable and have a hard time breathing so I can understand why people are quick to give low ratings but I love this crew of wonderful caring people. Dr Varela is hands down best doctor ENT in the history of my life. Thank you Dr. Anytime I have felt any sort of pressure or just need to ask a question I don't hesitate to call these wonderful people.
And every time they greet me with positive feedback and I never have to wait on hold for a very long and just the sweetest people if people want to say anything negative about them they just don't know this group of wonderful workers I walked in here with so much pain crying every night and I have no pain whatsoever. Jeff is such a great person thank you Jeff for your kind heartedness all in all just a good natured sweet group of people that are just there to help you/me.

Dr. was good got to the root of my problem. Although it took awhile for his staff to get the prescriptions moving as there were issues with insurance and the pharmacy. I needed to all the leg work for them. If I had not done so, I never would have gotten my prescriptions. My main issue lays with Cheryl in the billing department. I have been trying to reach her for 3 weeks now regarding an issue with my insurance company, and she has never called me back.
I have called 7 times. Even after explaining this issue is time sensitive, and we have to weeks to resolve the problem. Next step is having to go to the office in person and hash it out with the staff until I can get some help.

UPDATE: How funny that they asked me to call Cheryl and work out a "flexible payment schedule" because she was the very person that was hounding me and threatening collections while I was trying to figure out how to suddenly pay 500.00 for a literal 2 minute service that was not disclosed as HIGHLY EXPENSIVE AND NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE. Screw this place FOREVER, the only "flexible payment option" they offered me was 10% off if I paid in full. BFD. Hope you slept well on the money you took out of my kid's mouths. Jerks.

This practice has helped me immensely. I have sleep apnea, medium-bad, and wanted to know if there was anything in my nose or throat contributing to that problem. Dr. Adrian Varela scoped my nose and discovered a deviated septum, enlarged tonsils, and overgrown turbinates. In May, 2015, he did my surgery to correct these. That surgery was done very well, and I'm already seeing benefits: much better air flow when I breathe, and an improved sense of smell due to that air flow. I want to commend Dr. Varela, John Billinger, P.A., the sleep test personnel, and all the nurses I've seen. This is a caring and professional ENT practice.

I am very concerned as our son has an appt with NW ENT & Allergy! I have read the reviews which have brought on this concern. in phoning their offices twice today and both times getting answering machine saying they are closed although I called outside of their lunch hour (noon to one p.m.). Well, let's just say I am glad I read this page.and will continue to call to ask many questions i.e. what is covered via insurance. Thank you Yelp!
