Women and their physicians have changed a lot since the 1960s.

This is my 2nd visit here, and the first visit was OK. The nurses are always amazing and sweet, and actually seem like they care. This time around, it was terrible. I had to go upstairs for an ultrasound, and the front desk lady on the 2nd floor was beyond rude from the moment you walk in. Everything she said came with an attitude. Then the doctor I saw today, Dr. Buttener didn't listen and just made me feel like an idiot when I explained my symptoms to her.
She did not care at all, and she barely listened to me throughout the entire visit. I am only giving 2 stars because the nurses are so sweet. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone.

The 1-star rating & review is based on my experience with the Ultrasound department ONLY.I had a terrible experience with the ultrasound department at the short pump location. The ultrasound technician was extremely rude and had a terrible attitude. I am already experiencing a high risk pregnancy so this is a very sensitive time for me especially during ultrasound visits.
Before she even began the ultrasound I asked to have another technician because I felt very uncomfortable. She rudely left out & said she would switch with another technician. The manager GiGi came in. She was also very rude and did not have any empathy towards my situation. As I cried while telling her what I experienced, she seemed as though she could care less & she rudely said, you either have to use the same technician or come back another day because no one was available to do an ultrasound for me.
I told her coming back was not an option. I also told her she had a terrible attitude & I refused to deal with this right now so I just asked for her managers phone #. She didn't even apologize for what I was going through. They both made me feel Like I was wasting their time. This is suppose to be a happy time but unfortunately they both made it a horrible experience for me.
This was not my first time having a horrible, uncomfortable experience with the ultrasound department here. The ultrasound manager and her staff need to do better. They need to take a customer service etiquette course to learn how to treat patients better. This is my 3rd child with VWC & I love the prenatal department as well as my doctor and nurse practitioners.
They treat me with the utmost respect. The 1-star rating is due to my experience with the ultrasound department, I'm filled with anxiety when It's time for my appointments. Please do better!

I'll preface this by saying I've almost never written a review before: my appointment at the Broad Street location was the best medical experience I've ever had. All the staff are friendly and the facility itself is wonderful. Dr. Sarraf is knowledgeable and caring, and really took the time to understand my concerns and thoughtfully propose solutions. I would absolutely recommend Virginia Women's Center to anyone looking for a PCP/OB GYN.

I've been with VA womens center for 20 years now and I am not happy with Dr. Jefferson leaving the practice, however, Dr. Tozer has stepped up to take care of my womanly needs and I trust in the VA Womens Centers brand. Dr. Tozer was very patient with me and was knowledgeable about her craft. I've been to her 1 time but, so far so good. Also, Dr. Shannon is awesome!
I love her bedside manner because she communicates effectively and both Dr's do not rush me and makes me feel as though I am a human being and not just a number. Thank you all for your time. Even down to the phlebotomists in the lab. They are so courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. These are great attributes to have these days and times. It feels good to go to a practice that knows what they're doing and is able to put the patient at ease.

I've been going to this location since 2019 and I would say that I've had mostly a good experience. While I am leaving 4 stars because has been mostly good (plenty of parking, front desk folks are always pleasant, nursing staff is excellent, I usually have a good experience with the Dr I normally see). I've been having some frustrating issues with my nexplanon and I wanted to schedule my annual visit/talk about these issues with the nexplanon as soon as possible.
The soonest possible visit was available with another Dr, so I took that appointment. Honestly, this was the strangest interaction I've ever had with a gyno. I'm not sure what was going on that day. Her manner of speaking to me, particularly about the nexplanon was disappointing. I felt like she wasn't listening, was talking to me like I'm a child. Granted her suggestions/medical opinions on what was going on here provided no immediate relief to the frustrating problem which is different than what I wanted to hear; I feel like maybe she could have been a bit more empathetic when talking to me.
For example, "I know this isn't what you want to hear and I understand what you're telling me and I know this is a aggravating problem to have right now." would have been preferred to her drawing pictures on a piece of paper and telling me my "nexplanon is working fine and we need to wait 2 weeks more to see if things just work out." Getting into the annual exam with her was more awkward.
This is not my first annual exam I'm 35 years old and I have 2 kids as well so this is not a new experience for me. Yet I feel like her way of speaking to me and mannerisms with me were as if I were new to this process. Granted I'm not a huge fan of getting my annual exams. In my friends circle I don't know any woman that is like so excited to get their annual exams.
So I'm not laughing and cracking jokes but will comply with what the doctor is asking. I mean I'm not going to be like "woooo, here comes the duck bill been looking forward to that all year long." She literally asked me if I felt uncomfortable and would like to not to do the annual at this visit, I guess because I wasn't excited :) Anyway just some feedback.

The front desk people were super friendly and helpful, but Dr. Wilbanks was a different story. I tried to explain to him that I had been on the antibiotic before that he wanted to put me on, but he dismissed my concerns about the issue not being resolved in the long-term, said that it should be the right antibiotic to treat me, and still went ahead and put me on that antibiotic.
I took the prescription as directed and felt better.temporarily. I scheduled a follow-up appointment as recommended, and lo and behold, the same issue that I had come in for before had come back. I was in so much pain that I had to cancel that follow-up appointment because I couldn't even drive that long (bless whichever lady at the front desk who helped me cancel the appointment, she was sweet as pie).
I can't recommend Dr. Wilbanks, and I'm now less likely to be open to seeing a male doctor. I wasted my time and money on an appointment and prescription that I felt didn't help me or address my concerns.

My father was an OBGYN and I worked both his front and back office for many years. My own GYN from that practice retired years ago. I've had a difficult time finding someone as impressive, he was really top notch! He was a long time friend of the family, of course, and it's hard to replace such a long standing relationship, both professionally and personally.
Fast forward to this past Tuesday. I had an incidental finding on a CTScan that needed immediate attention for ruling out malignancy. I was able to obtain an appointment that very morning! While my father always left a few open spots on his daily book for work-ins, thats nearly unheard of in today's medical practice of any specialty! I was so relieved!
After the exam, no time was wasted in securing two separate back to back diagnostic mammograms for this Thursday, a mere two days later! Again, nearly unheard of. I am so impressed with the care and concern that was shown to me--they cared not just for the potential aspect of my issue, but also for my "to be expected" fear of the unknown. They knew I needed and deserved a quick and thorough assessment to determine if there really is a cause for concern.
The staff was incredible! The girl setting up my tests was incredibly thorough and made sure it all worked for me. She also took the initiative and made other health appts that were either coming due or even overdue! I felt well taken care of in the best possible sense. And an added bonus is the quiet, understated aesthetic of the office. Just being there creates a sense of well being! May this doc NEVER RETIRE! HAHA W. JONES

Wendy Dotson is by far the best OB midwife and gynecologist I have seen here. She's worked with me through my pregnancy and I am going to continue seeing her each year for my visits. She's so friendly, informative and makes me feel comfortable. She always answers all my questions, takes the time to listen to my concerns and always so cheerful. Every one of her nurses and people shadowing her have been so friendly as well.
Even through the pandemic and pregnancy I will continue to enjoy coming to this location. Booking appointments are easy. The staff are friendly and very responsive over the phone and portal. I've been here with this group for a few years now.
