About
Report
Forty years ago few people knew the word hospice; fewer still recognized its potential to alleviate suffering. But one woman held a vision of what this philosophy of care could mean to her community. This nurse, Elizabeth "Betty" Bulen, invited three of her friends, Betty Benz, Ann Elizabeth Warren, and Kay Elizabeth Austin, to work with her in establishing an organization of compassionate volunteers devoted to offering hospice care and palliative care to the terminally ill and their families. To strengthen this vision, Betty Bulen and Betty Benz visited St. Christopher's Hospice in London.

The demands of military life can take their toll on a person's physical, emotional and spiritual health. Some veterans who have coped well throughout their life may experience distressing memories and emotions during their end-of-life journey. Our veteran hospice care teams help ensure that those who have defended our freedoms are aware of their healthcare options, feel appreciated, and receive the medical support and attention they need and deserve. Our veteran hospice caregivers have specialized training that enables them to address post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, survivor's guilt, and soul injury.
