The Alachua County Organization for Rural Needs, Inc. ACORN Clinic is a nationally-recognized program that provides low-cost medical, dental and social services care to residents of North Central Florida. ACORN Clinic was founded in 1974 when two area churches funded volunteers to meet the healthcare needs of their community. The group initially focused on home visits and social service referrals. In 1976, ACORN Clinic established a medical clinic to meet the area's growing healthcare needs and later expanded its services by starting a dental clinic in 1987.

Two VISTA volunteers funded by local churches, opened a clinic to provide healthcare for migrant farm workers in outlying rural Alachua County. It was incorporated in May of 1974 and named the Alachua County Organization for Rural Needs, Inc. (ACORN).

Medical Clinic Closed

The board of directors of the ACORN Clinic announced today that they plan to phase out primary care and preventive health services provided by the medical clinic within the next three months. However, ACORN Clinic will continue to provide affordable dental services at its facility in Brooker, Florida.

Dental Clinic

Report

ACORN Dental Clinic first opened its doors in 1987, operating out of a donated trailer on the ACORN Clinic property. Today the ACORN Dental Clinic is a modern full service facility with six dental chairs and a two chair oral surgery suite. ACORN Dental Clinic's practitioners offer a wide variety of dental procedures to ACORN Clinic patients. Our "Tooth Fairy" outreach program reached 2,311 children from preschool to 1st grade in 2014.

ACORN Clinic uses a broad range of volunteers from the community in North Central Florida to help fulfill the Clinic's mission of providing affordable high-quality medical, dental and mental health services for our target audience of low-income, rural patients. Our use of healthcare professionals includes: physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants, pharmacists, dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, medical assistants, dental assistants and others.We are delighted to assist you in accessing appropriate volunteer opportunities wherever possible at ACORN.
