Questions
What is oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea?
Oral appliance therapy uses custom-fitted devices to maintain open airways during sleep by repositioning the jaw and tongue. These FDA-approved devices offer a non-invasive alternative to CPAP machines for treating obstructive sleep apnea.
How do I know if I need sleep apnea treatment?
Common symptoms include loud snoring, daytime fatigue, morning headaches, and witnessed breathing pauses during sleep. A formal diagnosis requires overnight sleep testing at an accredited sleep clinic or home sleep apnea testing.
What makes your practice different from general dentists?
Our practice specializes exclusively in dental sleep medicine with board-certified expertise. Dr. Smith serves as President of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and collaborates with major Indianapolis hospital sleep clinics.
Can oral appliances work if CPAP failed?
Yes, oral appliances are an effective alternative for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. They can also be used in combination with CPAP therapy for enhanced treatment effectiveness in managing obstructive sleep apnea symptoms.
