His extensive credentials include degrees from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and Albany College of Pharmacy, as well as a rotating internship completed at Albany Medical College. Dr. Lotano completed residency training in ophthalmology at McGuires Veterans Hospital at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

The doctors and staff at Piedmont Eye Center have been involved in a variety of ongoing trips to help people who cannot afford proper eye care. These outreaches have included helping the local Lynchburg community and extensive international involvement and support. In 2005, Dr. Darin K. Bowers, his wife Pam (a registered nurse), and several key volunteers helped establish the first eye clinic in the the poorest region of Roatan, Honduras. The Oakridge Community Clinic is a fully-equipped eye clinic and ophthalmic surgery facility.

Operation Sight

We are proudly involved with providing care to patients affected with cataracts on an international scale, and now, Piedmont Eye Center is taking an active role to identify and treat patients in our own community who would otherwise go without surgery. Through a partnership with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation's program known as Operation Sight, we are able to provide patients with this amazing surgery without the financial worry for those who qualify.Operation Sight is the ASCRS Foundation's U.S-based charitable cataract surgery program.
