There are a variety of reasons a patient may need a specialty lens. These include irregular corneas due to scarring or keratoconus, changes in corneal shape after LASIK, dry eyes, and even some high prescriptions. Scleral lenses are large diameter rigid gas permeable contact lenses. The material is highly oxygen permeable.

Ok, so I rarely get good enough service to leave these kinds of posts - but Dr. Kaufman and her staff deserve special mention. I was referred to her office by my regular eye Dr. at Optic Gallery in Kent - who also deserve special mention for their care and consideration - they referred me. I have special eye care needs due to a cornea trasplant years ago.
Technology
Report
This technology has been transformative for our practice and our patients. This tomographer scans the eye and measures the elevation and thickness of over 100,000 points. Why is this so helpful? There are many reasons. Just as no two fingerprints are alike, no two eye surfaces are alike either. In the past, patients needing orthokeratology lenses, would receive lenses designed with just a few specified curves.

If you wear contact lenses.remove the contact lens.if the eye starts looking less red then the contact lens may need to be cleaned or replaced. If the pain goes away you may need to clean your lens or it may need to be replaced. If the pain does not go away you should schedule an appointment to come in for an office visit.
